a pretty good article, though it does have some flaws...

anyway, i disagree with the opening statemen. it should be "there are old climbers and stupid climbers". being bold doesnt get you killed, being stupid does.

I always hated that saying. It implies that climbers are either hotheaded young testosterone radguys, or overweight safety nazis who bring up a triple set of cams on a fifty foot 5.4.

Interesting article, though.

No, I think by the time you're old, you're not consciously pushing the envelope anymore. That's what I always considered a bold lead to be, one that pushes the envelope of what's reasonable in the leader's mind. By the time you're old, you're well aware of what's reasonable, you're no longer looking for limits that need pushed. You might still be stretching other people's limits in terms of boldness, but not your own.
