So, I see how to delete albums, but what's the trick for deleting your own photos that are not in an album? That "all content is property of RC.com" note was the straw....

As an aside to this, it was suggested to reload the photos to fix the resolution problems. But if you can not delete the old one, you get two copies of everything.

In reply to: That "all content is property of RC.com" note was the straw.... I kinda feel the same way too. I suddenly wonder why people would want to contribute to a site such as this one. So I have to wonder.... With the new regime claiming ownership of everything in the site, how does that work out legally when they have route discriptions which they are claiming ownership to, that were copied straight out of copyrighted guide books?

I am also interested in how to delete photos. I like to remove all of mine and start over every once in a while. And, I am not sure I like the new photo setup, so might wish to remove my photos anyway.

No response from management yet to either of the two threads focused on this issue. Bug or feature?

This property thing doesn't mean you don't own your pic anymore, it means it can't bestolen from rccom to another site. This is what I understood. I can't find a delete button.

Its still super easy to rip photos off this site. My photos are my photos, I want to delete them all please. Now who do I contact to get that done. Those people who are actually sell their photos for money should be ripping pissed at the fact that RC.com now "owns" them.

In reply to: Good luck getting a reply. This only seems important to us people with photos up. And it seems that we probobly won't get a reply either: [quote=ddt]Where is feature X? If you don't see it and we don't respond to tell you where to find it, it's not part of the new site.[/ quote] Total bulshiit. We contribute to this site and have no say and no warning about where or how that information will be used. Why would I bother contributing anything more?

Larry do you mean this part of the TOS legal notices? "All content on this site, including text, graphics, logos, icons, images, designs, audio clips, and software, is the property of Rockclimbing.com. or its content suppliers and is protected by international copyright laws." Doesn't the part I've set in bold mean that we content suppliers own the stuff we contribute?

Supposedly rob.. but seeing as they won't let us delete them they would be able to use them for front page or whatever else they want around the site without us being able to stop them. Who's PM'd DDT or Sangrio about it and any response at all?

OK, from what I can tell, there are two issues with Photos: a) Where is the delete button (feature or bug)? b)What, exactly, does the new TOS mean in regards to ownership of the photos, credit, copyrights, etc... I will try to compile a list of grievances regarding photos and bring them up to management. I promise I will post here ASAP to try to clear the air. -F

For those of you who have been unable to delete you photos, please look here for instructions. Before you go on deleting your content however please know that the current owners have expressed very clearly that the "users own their photos". -F

But the site may edit them and use them on this site as they see fit. IAW the TOS there is nothing stopping them from using my/your photos as advertisments for RC.com and their partners either just as long as they are not sold. That's what most people are not happy with. If I own them you can't use them without my permission. Mitt

Mitt, that will be addressed. I concur that it would be in the sites interest to obtain permission before any commercial use is made of any images. If however images are used say in a demonstration at a trade fair then that would be fair use and would not need permission sought. Let me be a little clearer in my explanation. Say the outdoor retailers trade show is under way and a representative of this site was wanting to demonstrate how the site looks then he merely pops open a laptop and shows his opposite number the website working on the net. This is going to show pics. This could also be considered a commercial use. No way could the rc.com representative be aksed to obtain permission to use an image. On the other hand, let's say a rope maufacturer wants to advertise on rc.com. He wants to use one of my images that I have posted to this site. That would be a commercial arrangement between the manufacturer and me, nothing to do with the site. The site does not have the right to sell my copyrighted image to the manufacturer so that his ropes can be advertised on this site. Does all this sound fair to you guys. See what needs to happen is for you guys to promote some real world scenarios. I would hope that the photos section of the site could generate income for the photo posters. The site can piggy back on the success of the photos section by way of the advertising that goes along with the normal course of affairs when a user clicks on the page. I would hope that commercial operators seek out the many great photogs on this site and make their own commercial arrangements with those users. There is no place for this site to profit on the content that you the users have provided. There is more upside for the users than the site. Let's all get his in perspective people. There is no conspiracy theory, step back from the monitor and take your tinfoil hat off.

O.K real world scenario. #1(unlikely) Beal contacts ddt and says they would like to advertise on RC.com only. They wish to use RC.com material that will stay resident on RC.com. They pic one of my pictures and super impose your gear review ontop of it and use it as a banner at the base of this site. RC.com does not need permission to do that under the current TOS. #2(very likely) An editor at RC.com decides that there is something disagreeable on one of my pictures but it is not the focus of the content. They decide to edit that thing out and not tell anyone. Under the current TOS they may. See my concern. The TOS specifically allows #2. There needs to be a change that no one may edit my content without my permission. Mitt

That is a commercial arrangement that this site would not be a party to. You would be contacted and permission sought and the proper fee would need to be paid according to commercial rates agreed upon by both you and the company involved.

There needs to be a change that no one may edit my content without my permission. Mitt You should also note that the above scanario was able to be performed under the old site anyway. It was never used to my knowledge. We have better things to do than to be editing pictures. We used to put pics on hold and ask the users to do any edits etc. If that was not done then we would simply delete the pic as an automatic software response that was out of our hands once a certain time frame was up. We also have the ability to edit a users post on this site, that was taken away from the mods and admins and was hardwired under the old site. We now have a core of very commited mods and indeed a much smaller core of mods to boot. If I catch any mod editing a users posts then I will be very annoyed and will advocate for their immediate removal. Same goes for pics. It is your content, you own it, you take care of it when asked or it will be removed, pretty simple and much easier to implement for us mods and eds than dealing with the politics of all the dramam ensuing from actually editing a users content. Is this clear. Any other questions, please use the site owners response to photos thread in this forum.

yes, phil, i have a question concerning editing... if "its not going to happen" and you would be all pissed if you found out someone is editing WHY IS IT EXPLICITLY PERMISSIBLE IN THE TOS? there is fucking well no good reason for it.

Good question clausti. I shall attempt to answer it, no doubt poorly. The site software allows editing of users posts therefore the site has an obligation to provide the framework for this function. This site has laso had a long standing commitment to honouring a users content as their own work. Much the same as the way copyright works. There may as yet some unforseen circumstances come up some time in the future where the edit function may be used. I cannot forsee that this would ever be needed to change content. As such the function is there much the same as the apple was in the Garden of Eden. The mods know that the function is not to be used. I have used the function within the last hour to change a title of a thread so that users understand the intent of the thread more clearly. Titles have always been able to be changed by mods. We need the edit function to change titles, that is clear. We do not need the edit fucnction to change the body of text submitted by users, that is clear. We only have one button to perform both functions. That is also clear. If a title is edited then a note is placed at the bottom of the body of the text. This would show that the text was edited. This is not the best as it gives rise to accusations that the mods are editing text. Mind you the users have never held quoting a users text in the same regard that they hold the mods up to. How many posts have users butchered the content of when quoting. A little consistency here would be apreciated. This is not to suggest that the mods should be held to any sort of lesser accountability. What is in the TOS for the sake of the legal people and what has been established over time by convention may be two different things altogether. It is what we do rather than what we say that counts here. If you ever find that a mod has edited text then do feel free to scream blue murder at me and I shall act. If ever you see an edit note on a users text then there may well be some very simple explanation associated with the associated thread. It should only ever be a question of a title change and nothing else. So in short, yes the mods need the edit function in very limited ways and on very limited occasions. The users should also be very careful that they honour another users text when using the quote button. I hope I have made the position of this site very clear. Please feel free to ask any further questions in this regard.
