I fell about 4 metres while bouldering in Fontainebleau (alone, in the rain, in a very little visited area on January 2nd of this year. Smart, huh?) and landed on the edge of my crashpad. There goes the ankle that has been injured 9 times through basketball already. D'oh! I landed with my right foot (the bad one) under my left ass cheek, and when I rocked back onto my back from the force of the fall it felt like my entire right shin bent into a crescent shape.
I had to walk three km back to my hotel in Barbizon (I was in the Gorges des Allouettes or whatever. Near the Bandit's cavern.). Then, after a full day of bed rest, and onother of limited mobility I walked on it again for 8 hours through Paris and the Louvre, and upon heading back to Germany two days later had to carry the crash pad and the 60+ lb backpack. (A bunch of camping gear that was never used.)
That'll do any ankle good!

I only got three days of climbing in, and since I was climbing alone, the photos involved me propping my camera up on a nearby rock/stump/ground, setting the 10 second (or 15. Doesn't matter) timer and booking it back to the rock to get as far up as possible before the camera goes click. But most of the photos I did take are up on my web page. www.angelfire.com/bc2/climbwandt

koolkitty take it easy, dont go too crazy with sports you have to PACE yourself so your body has time to heal and get stronger. if you go at it too hard youll end up hurt and then itll take even looonger to accomplish your goals.

Trust me, you aren't the only one to injure yourself through other sports.
My tally to date:
Right ankle: Basketball- 11 times torn ligaments/severe sprains. the last tear was 11 days ago.
Climbing once. Ultimate frisbee once. Skiing once.
Left ankle: Field Lacrosse- once torn ligaments.
Right knee: Basketball and lacrosse.
Right shin: climbing.
Torn tendons or broken Fingers: football, weight training, climbing.
Left elbow: climbing, basketball, lacrosse.

Odd, basketball is supposedly the safest of these sports (except maybe ultimate frisbee) and I've been injured in it the most.
And this weekend is a huge 3 on 3 tournament, so I figure I should be able to rack up some more injuries no prob.

I disagree..ultimate frisbee is a very dangerous sport...played for many years....neverany serious injuries yet...but normally come away with cut sctratches...bumps...if you don't get too injured playing Ultimate...you are difinatley not playing it right...one of the best all time sports played...only in the woods around trees and down hills...that is the best...field of about 1 mile long...FUN

Evey climber I know complains about tendon troubles, but I tend to openhand almost everything so I seemed to have dodged that bullet for now.

It seems that too many people have the same injuries over and over again 'cause they don't take the time to fully recover from severe or potentially harmful injuries. I can understand how it happens, I just can't raspect it.

My worst injury from bouldering was a pulled muscle in my upper back. It probably would've only needed a couple off months to heal, but I started up again after a few weeks and hurt myself in the exact same place only worse. In stead of losin a couple of months of hard climbing it was closer to five.

Everyone should know a little chemistry. Have you ever cut your finger with the jacknife? Burned yourself with the blue flame? Hurt your ankle while bouldering? If so then you know what Im talking about.

I remember that at age 17-18 it was a badge of honor to have had all sorts of injuries to brag about; broken bones, muscle tears, cuts, bruises, etc. Unfortunately at age 51 they all come back to haunt you. I have probably broken something in every part of my poor old bod over the years and feel every one of them but luckily I have never had anything serious from climbing. Lots of lost skin on fingers, cuts on the back of hands from jamming and loss of skin on knees from short falls. I do have some tendon soreness from earlier in life injuries but it doesn't effect my climbing yet. For those of you younger take care of your bod if you want to continue climbing for many years.

You can climb with pain.....it just hurts!

I've cracked my head open 7 times, sliced by thumb open, and been dragged behind a car. Of course, none of those are climbing related, but I haven't been climbing that long, so I'm told to keep up with climbing and I'll have my share of cuts and bruises.

I've dislocated my left shoulder twice and for some reason, I keep scraping my left knee on the wall. It's never anything serious, just tiny little scrapes. I've also got a tiny rope burn scar, I also think that I pulled some muscles in some of my fingers. They cramp up sometimes and I don't know what to do, suggestions?

I throw out my left shoulder constantly but that's due to a non climbing injury. I twisted my ankle once when I tripped over a rock before I started climbing.

I havent had that many climbing related injuries except for the standard ankle injury, I had to be carried out by the rangers last time my ankle got screwed up. The worst ever, non-climbing injury though was cracking my whole face up and breaking both and upper and lower jaw. It was wired shut for 7 weeks and I had to live off blended food. It wasnt fun. : )
