SO, how many folks fit on the bivy ledge? I've seen reports of 3 on the ledge and now 5. What is it really? Don't want to get to crux pitch and blow the climb entirely. How hard is it to aid the crux if desperation mounts? What is the deal with rattle snakes? Saw a note about one landing on a climber while on this climb. Was that a freak occurrence or something to worry about? Thanks.

Five on the bivy ledge would be a bit tight but doable, 3 would be more comfortable (the ledge is actually about 20 feet wide by 60 feet long but there are few comfortable spots that are level and aren't occupied by sharp rock or various varieties of cactus and cat's claw etc.) The bolts on the crux pitch were intentionally set close together so you can dog your way up if you have to. Rattlesnakes, tarantulas, scorpions and centipeds have been seen high on this route and on other long routes but not very often. I would stay aware but not concerned.

THANK YOU!! I hadn't thought about all the other critters that might be there. I'd ran into a rattle snake last year and would rather not come upon another.

Thanks. heh. that was me. it was at night while rapping, about 500 feet up. Just watch the cacti, since that seems to be where they hang out. The late great Jimmy Forester also had a snake bite him in Mexico when he reached in a pocket. He drove all the way back to Dallas for treatment. RIP.

It's been another warm winter and we've actually seen more snakes this year than we have in the past. Still wouldn't be overly concerned.
