“Prolly” is an ugly abbreviation. “Probably” isn’t even that much longer. I can only imagine the users of this verbal abortion as mumbling, semi-literate adolescents who sound like they have marbles in their mouth when they speak.

There's a B in there! It's PROBLY. Duh.

I am hardly a semi-literate adolescent, although I can see why I might be mistaken for one, being an rc.com user and all Wink

I still hate it. How will it be eliminated if someone doesn’t complain? Does anyone like it? Perhaps the site can install a filter that will change the offensive word into something more reasonable so that I can take the risk of reading more posts. As it is, the only way I can avoid it is to squint to try to identify the word before actually reading it. These sorts of things mean that my life just gets worse all the time. Don’t you think you should be doing something to help?

If you ever say "collocation," "important," or "hundred," then you're using words that were built the same way as "prolly."

You just don't know about it since they're old changes in these pronunciations.

Also, the people who say 'ax' for 'ask?' They're right. A bunch of mumbling, semi-literate adolescents kept mispronouncing the proper Old English 'aksjan' as 'askjan.'

Languages change. You'll be a happier person if you can deal.

when you speak, do you say "mem'ry" or did you say "memory?"

if you dont keep ALL the syllables in EVERY word, then you should shut up about how we're prolly all semi-literate adolescents.

Abbreviations are part of the natural evolution of language. I can imagine when "Cannot" became "Can't", "is not" became "isn't" etc causing a stir among language critics.
