Small world peculiarity: Nicholas Wade (the science writer for the nytimes who is big on these new sorts of arguments that try to nail down evolutionary details based on genetic evidence) is a cousin to a professor (another Wade) who works at the same university (in Argentina) as me and who happened to drive me to work today.
Here's my prophetic view on things (assuming a meteorite doesn't strike the earth, or there isn't world economic collapse, etc.): genetics wil replace physics as THE science of the 21st century and will replace computer science as THE technology of the 21st century.
So go and study genetics, kids. And try not to fuck people over with what you learn .

We love it when new evidence proves our old ideas wrong. That means we've learned something.

not for all loci, anyways.
and, evolutionary biologists dont say "OMG WE'RE RIGHT" but rather "the best evidence we have right now supports this theory."
we also dont tag the end with "and if you dont beleive our theory, you will be punished by part of our theory, for eternity."
i'd be a lot more interested in seeing their results for chromosome 2 than 23.
the single biggest difference in genome architecture between humans and the other great apes is that they have an extra pair of chromosomes. our #2 corosponds to their 2 and 3, fused. we are the only ones with 23 instead of 24 out of humans, chimps, gorrillas and orangatans.

Uh...yeah. Science is about proving things wrong, pretty much.
Getting rid of self limiting beliefs is a central tenet of science that I aspire to as well.
