By Robin Wright and Peter Baker The Washington Post The Bush administration is split over the idea of a surge in troops to Iraq, with White House officials aggressively promoting the concept over the unanimous disagreement of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, according to U.S. officials familiar with the intense debate. I'm not sure why I'm even posting this, as I'm pretty sure nobody will be surprised. After all, they have never listened to their own experts before--why start now? Curt

NEVER allow real data to inform your mythology. I'm just amazed that the thoughts of the Joint Chiefs weren't classified.

If all rational logic says to get OUT of Iraq, why does GW want to send MORE people there? I really don't understand what anyone has to gain from this. Does he think we can still "win" the war? Is this war just for Cheney's company, Halliburton, to make more profit?

It's my "hunch" based on what I've seen, that GWB really believes this stuff. I think he's sincere. If so, this just goes to prove that uncritical belief in something "good" (in this case that Iraq can convert, in a relatively short period of time, into a flourishing western-style democracy) can cause much greater evil than a more cynical/realistic point of view. In other words, there is such a thing as "healthy" cynicism, as opposed to being an unrealistic dreamer, and in this case I think it's clear where Bush sits.

He's determined to prolong this agony until the November 2008 elections. There ain't no fuckin' way Bush will concede defeat until his cracker-ass-cracker ass is out of office. anything less would be the final nail in the coffin for an already horribly corrupt administration that has waged an oil war at the cost of HUNDREDS of thousands lives. It wouldn't matter at this point if Jesus himself dropped out of the sky and told that jackass he was losing...Bush's only answer is to increase troop amounts. fuck diplomacy, fuck iran, fuck syria, he's in this until 2008 no matter what anyone says, no matter how many more die. Fucking meglomaniacs.
