I'm planning a trip to City of Rocks in the spring. Could you guys that frequent the park give me an idea of what to bring or must have on the punch list as far as gear goes? Speaking of Trad gear only, got enough sport gear.

small to big

That is green alien or similar to #3 Camalot. Depending on routes a bigger piece or two is nice. Stoppers are real useful there.

Norrmally I go with green, yellow, red alien, .5-3 Camalot, rocks and a few tri-cams. TCU's are nice there as well if you are not an alien fan. Hope that helps

You could just bring quickdraws, a harness, shoes, a rope and a belay device. There are a bunch of really scary slabby sport climbs and some more fun overhanging ones. However, sport climbing is the second best thing you can do there. Bouldering is third.

Assuming you want to do some cracks, you need to bring nuts from
4-13 BD, a set of TCUs or some other brand of little cams, and a set of
regular size cams from .5-3 in the BD lineup, with doubles where you can afford it. I also carry the smallest 5 tricams, cause I like them.

If you want to climb something wider, bring larger stuff.

You probably also want 4 12" slings, 8 24" slings, and two 48" slings,
along with a whole bunch of biners to make trad draws and to rack
gear on. A nut tool would be good too.Wink I also bring tape and a knife so I can make tape gloves.

The rock has some big crystals in it that can be brittle so keep an eye out when you make placements.

I haven't been in a while but i remember getting up alot of stuff there with mostly nuts and there are at least a couple of easy climbs (cowboy something on bath, something on the twins they don't let you do anymore) that can be lead mostly slinging chicken heads.
