Planning a trip to the Basque country in July/Aug, anyone have any experience there? I'm mainly looking for boulder/sport and free-solo options and camping/lodging near by. Oh, and I'm working my way to central France.

Hi,
There are many options to climb in The Basque Country. It will depend on your level and preferences. If you like more alpine routes:Atxarte (Bizkaia/Vizcaya) is a nice place with multi pitch routes or one pitch routes;the mount Txindoki (Gipuzkoa/Guip˙zcoa)is a nice place to climb with few multi pitch routes;Cabo Ogo˝o (Bizkaia) is a spectacular wall on the coast, nice experience, also multi pitch routes. If you want to do sport climbing: Etxauri (Nafarroa/Navarra) is the best place in my opinion, many routes of different grades but mainly above 6b; San Fausto (Nafarroa), is the paradise of V-6a-6b-6c,good routes. There are many more places like:Atauri, Apellaniz, Valdegovia (Araba/Alava), Araotz (Gipuzkoa)...For bouldering: Larraona, Hondarribi...
Just to mention some...
Good climbings, it is a nice country.

For bouldering you can go on top of the Mondarrain as well (if you don't mind sharing the mountain with the horses!).

Hi,

Yes, for bouldering Mondarrrain is a nice and quite place. It is in the Basque French side, known as Iparralde. It is at the top of a little mountain. There is also another place near the coast for bouldering, between Zumaia and Getaria, we call it Camineros. It is not very well known but it is a nice place with sandstone boulders.
I hope this information will be helpful for anyone that wants to go to the Basque Country.
