I tried to find this once, and ended up climbing at Elephant Rock. Anyone climb this long easy route? Is it any good? How far past Elephant Rock is it? Thanks.

This is one of my favorite easy, cruiser, beginner leads in Pinnacles. I've climbed it several times. It's set up as four pitches, but I like to skip the second semi-hanging belay and go to the third belay. It's completely bolted and I'm pretty sure I read that the bolts were replaced two or three years ago. The approach goes up some loose, semi-steep stuff, but it's just less than pleasant hiking. The directions in my Pinnacles guide were sufficient to get there the first time. I've walked off and rapped off and prefer rapping off.

It's fun, and about 1/2 mile past Elephant Rock. Now that you know where Elephant Rock is, that will help. The carabiner signs lead to Elephant Rock, but for Citadel you wait until you are directly below Elephant Rock, and then hike up the trail next to the stream bed. Whitetail Rock and the Citadel are at the head of that little valley. Right now, Whitetail and Citadel are closed for bird nesting. They might reopen in April, but probably they will be closed until July, so the time to do Costanoan and other nearby climbs is in the fall. http://www.stanford.edu/~clint/pin/birdc07.htm

CLIMBED THIS ONCE WHEN I KICKT IT IN THE 707. THE FIRST PITCH IS EASY, BUT HAS DECKING POTENTIAL DUE TO BOLT RUN OUTS. ABOUT AS RUN OUT AS CLASSIC JT CHOSS ROUTES LIKE DOUBLE DIP. JTCRIP PINNACLES ROCK SEEMS LIKE YOS GRANITE COMPARED TO JT CHOSS.
