Can anyone help me out with suggestions for the best places to sport climb in Europe in August? I've got a month I'm trying to kill -

First, it is very depending from the level you climb.
There is also a difference if you like block, sportroutes or mutiplepitches route.

Hey thanks for the quick reply. I'm climbing sport routes (bolted lines only) up to 5'11 on the US scale (means somewhere in the 7b or 7c range in Europe I think). I'd love to hit Spain, but am concerned it will be too hot. What do you think about that?

well, 11d is 7a or there abouts.
of those places gvanaco recommended, fonti and calanques are going to be really hot.
and he forgot ceuse and rodellar. spains higher crags, like rodellar and siurana are climbable during summer.

Yeah - like overlord mentioned, some of gvanaco's recommendations are too hot. I lived/worked in El Chorro two seasons ago and we had to pack up and head north as early as March - then we suffered thru rain and snow in Rodellar and Siurana in April with many great days too (awesome areas and I bet wonderful in summer!) with shade options in both areas.
Ceuse in France is nice through June at least, but the climbing is difficult for the most part.

Thanks for the info.
I'm actually not limiting myself to Western Europe. Have you found anything out about areas in Eastern Europe with lots of bolted climbs?

Hey - my thread is just below this one. I'm still waiting for info. I know that Osp, kotecnik, pod resko planino (Slovenia) and paklenica (Croatia) are supposed to be nice (acording to overlord in other threads) and I believe all bolted. Also, it seems that Frankenjura might be a nice option if I make it west. I also want to see what Poland and Slovakia have to offer since many of the strongest women are coming out of those countires - there must be awesome climbing!
I had an amazing time climbing in the Dolomites a few summers ago - we did all trad, but played on some sport climbs at cinque torrre for a day or so - definitely doable in summer - good temps. Let me know if you find something out.

osp, misja pec, crni kal in slovenia and paklenica in croatia (and all the crags in istra and dalmtia for that matter) are usually too hot to climb during summer.
the areas really worht visiting in slovenia are kotecnik and the crags in and aroud bohinj and bled. there are others, but those are a must if youre just driving through.
for eastern europe... i met some climbers from bulgaria and they supposedly also have some sick climbing.

So, i've been reading this forum and overlord you seem to be pretty knowledgeable about climbing in europe.. and when we head out that way, we'd like to visit you.. But thats beside the point.. but, since we'll be in europe starting may 08 through the summer, where are some basic spots that you reccomend that we hit for some good sport / trad climbing that wont be too hot to climb bc im reading mixed reviews.. eastern or western europe, we dont care.. thanks again..

as for good spots, look for places that are etiher on a higher altitude or more or less to the north.

Did nobody even mention germany? Pfalz and Frankenjura are the best summer area's to go!
And for more exotic but amazing climbing, look for rock in belgium, they have a LOT!
