there are too many people on earth already, yet we continue to grow. we are ablsolutely reeking havoc on the environment and the wildlife population. we use our resources faster than the earth can replace them. what kind of quality of life are we leaving for our children?

Wreaking havoc. And the answer to your question is, poor. And even poorer for our grandkids, so on and so for. Smog is just one example.

I read in Scientific American that there may be a population decline in the next 50 years or so, and not because of food shortages or other bad things like that. Its because as third world countries become more global and the general populations life expectancy increases, people start to have less children. The current birth rate in America is negative. The only reason our population in America increases is because of immigration.

Well, you could always kill your self. Change starts at home you know. Also, getting your tubes tied. Kill some Mormons? How about Indians? Not that the Pakistanis aren't trying themselves. The Chinese could use some pairing down. The point is that we are already overpopulated, and the only option that isn't completely distasteful to the population at large is voluntary sterility, and even that'll go over like a fart in church for some people.

yeah, a lot of people in th world have issues with chinas one child policy, and it doesn't even effect them. Imagine the outcry if every country brought it in..... As countries become more affluent and educated, population growth slows....

Well, it's subjective of course, and differs from one part of the world to another... But we are either overpopulated in many places, or our entire economic system and resource allocation and use is wrong.
