WASHINGTON (AFP) - The US State Department said that a leaked cockpit video of a US attack on a British convoy in the opening days of the Iraq war showed the American pilots "felt immediate remorse" for the "friendly fire" incident.
A British soldier was killed and four others seriously wounded in the attack, which took place eight days after US and British forces invaded Iraq on March 20, 2003, to topple the government of Saddam Hussein.
"There is a very clear expression of remorse from those who were involved on our side," department spokesman Sean McCormack said when asked about the contents of the video leaked Tuesday by the British newspaper The Sun.
