I am an NC native currently living in Monterrey, Mexico where there is an abundance of climbing and great gyms within 20 minutes of my house. As I am getting ready to finish my study abroad here, I will be returning to NC without anyone to climb with and only a little bit of gear. I hope to keep training at another gym, but Vertical Edge is not exactly what I am looking for. Last time I went there were too many kids and not enough holds to do 90degree bouldering around the room. Can anyone tell me if there are groups that get together in the Raleigh area or also if Raleigh Rock Yard is better for someone who doesn't want to climb with tons of kids around?????

Rockyard in Raleigh is pretty cool, and definatly worthy checking out. There typcially isn't many people in there, and as long as you don't go when there is a birthday party, there is no kids at all. Also, since it seems like you are more into bouldering, Rockyard is a much better fit, because it really feels like the whole focus of the gym is bouldering. You can actually climb the entire gym in one long traversal route if you line everything up right. There was actually a route taped up like that for a while, but since then some holds have been moved and the tape never got updated. Rockyard is smaller than Vertical Edge, but it just seems like a better place.
