I'm going to be in Arkansas in a couple weeks for spring break, and I want to make a trip out to HCR. Probably going to just buy a guidebook when I get there, unless there's one online somewhere? I usually climb here with a group of friends, and everybody uses everybody else's gear. So I only have 7 of my own quickdraws. I have the feeling that's not going to be enough for the typical HCR climb. How many bolts are there on average/how many more quickdraws do I need to borrow before I come?

10-12 draws would be more than enough to get you up most routes. There is a route with as many as 14 bolts.

There are plenty of routes with 6 or 7 bolts, but the average is probably around 8.

i was just there 2 weekends ago and most the climbs i did (north 40 section) are 5-6 draws with 2 draws needed for the anchor (if you're going to tr also). there is a great guidebook on sale at the office for $16.95. if you've never been to hcr- you'll be in for a treat! the rock is way friendly!!!!!! have a great time!

True, but what if you need to bail? Bring 15 to be safe, quickdraws arent hard to come by. When are you going to be there? Ill be there April 2- april 8, and could loan you some.

Thanks for all the info. Looks like I'll be able to scrounge up enough draws to make it out there. I'll be in Arkansas from the 10-17th, tentatively planning on heading to HCR on either the 12th or the 14th. I'll just be there with my boyfriend and maybe one or two other people, and none of them have very much climbing experience. So if anyone's going to be around then and is willing to show us around, that would be pretty cool.

I think there's a guidebook that you can download online that's pretty good. Just google Horseshoe climbing or something, I'll see if I can find the link.

I've been told the free online guide isn't available anymore now that the new $14 one is out. I've looked around for it without success. I'll probably just buy one when I get there.

If you can afford to travel, you can afford to pick up a few more draws. Look around on the net. Deals on biners and draws are very common.

Whats your email? Someone sent me a file of it, so I ll just keep the chain moving. It will give you some good ideas of where you wanna go first, though the 14$ guide now is alot more detailed

Right, but I can't pick up a few more draws between now and Friday. I actually just bought a few more with my REI dividend, but they're on backorder and who knows when I'll get them. And I spent all my money on the plane ticket anyway. I'm a poor starving college student, come on! I'll be able to borrow a few, that's not a problem. I just wanted to know about how many more I needed.
