West Virgina - NRG, Seneca, Cooper's Rock

As I have said elsewhere on these forums, I'm not ready to climb yet this year (I'm loosing weight and have about 60 more pounds to drop before I will get back on the rock). However, I would like to meet people in the area. I used to be a fairly competent belayer, and I would be capable of doing that this summer even if I would not be climbing.

The one caveat - any where I go, my kids go. My hubby is a trucker so there is no one to leave them with. If you climb while school is in session, I would be able to meet up with you during the mid morning to early afternoon weekdays (I'm about 1.5 hours from Coop - NRG is too far for week day treks).

Mostly I would like to just get to know the local climbing community and perhaps make some friends so that when I AM ready to climb I might have found a good partner :)

Are there, perhaps, any big local events - climbing days, gatherings, such like - around here?

God Bless,
mik

Check out the new river gorge ron de voo. We both know that ain't spelt right. go to events or east coast climbers sections and you will find threads on the nrgr. It is a great place/event to meet lots of ppl from all over but esp. this area. I had a great time last year but can't make it this year. Also, just go up to coopers any weekend.

"I used to be a fairly competent belayer..."

That just instills so much confidence. Can we please climb together?

LOL it has been 11 years - I would want a review on knots, gear and technique before I would trust myself with anyone's life :p

However when I WAS climbing, I helped teach climbing courses and was very active in high angle search and rescue as well as climbing often with friends. I did know what I was doing then, so it wouldn't take much to come up to speed :P

I promise I wouldn't drop you too often Sly

God Bless,
mik

I'm planning a little day trip to WaterStone Outdoor store two weeks from tomorrow It's likely going to be too rainy to even hike around, but I want to go look at geer and talk to people (I live in Dodderidge County - I have little to nothing in common with the vast majority of the people here :/ )

I plan on being in town around 9ish.

(edit note - this week, finances and circumstances have conspired to make a day trip not possible. I need to find my ducks and get them in a row first :P )

God Bless,
mik
