A trustworthy partner is very hard to find and more valuble than gold. It can take a long time ot build trust or it can be almost immidiate. It depends alot on how good you judge yourself and your partner, and good judgement is learned through experience. My philosophy is not to stick your neck out too far untill your partner has "proven" himself beyond a reasonable doubt.

I am lucky enough to have several partners who I trust in any situation that I know they have some experience with. A big part of trust for me is knowing that someone is willing to admit they are not ready for something. There is one guy that thinks he knows everything but doesn't have much experience and I won't let him lead belay me. I only let him top rope belay me because I taugh him how and watched him for the first few times he did it. phyre

I think that I'm lucky enough to say that I would completely trust my partner with me life, since ofcourse my climbing partner is my dad! He is the one who gave me life, so why not trust him with it while we're climbing? I think that a great partner that you can trust you life with, is not that hard to find, but the question is, when you find him, do you even like him? I have had many people belay for me, many of them I can trust me life with, but there's only of those belayers that are my full-time climbing partner.
