Are you talking about a route of that name or the actual Great Wall of China?

There is a traverse of the Trapps in the Gunks called the Great Wall of China. I think it is about 5.9 R, around 30 pitches maybe.

Im sure many other areas have routes in other areas share the same name.

If your talking of the actual wall, I think its around 15,000 miles. I doubt it has been done, and I doubt the ability to lead a 5.6 would be able to help you very much. I hear it would go at least at a 5.7.

Cool

seriously...that is a pretty fucking cool idea. As long as it was cool w/ the chinese (and you were serious, which I don't really believe you are... Unimpressed ) then I bet you could get mucho sponsorship, and article deals in mags etc. making it even more possible and inspiring. Shit, if you ARE serious, get better at climbing and I will TOTALLY be your partner AND do all the grovling to the companies...

serioiusly... that is a pretty fucking lame idea.

historic sites like the great wall are not meant for climbing and if someone starts it, others will follow and pretty soon there will be no wall left.

besides, im pretty sure it cant be traversed in full. because its not all stone and mortar and parts of it are already destroyed.

Wikipedia and a couple other sources all say ~4000 miles long.

It doesn't look like the actual Great Wall would require any climbing ability seeing that it's just a long walk:

My mistake, just doing a quick search on the internet said 1500 miles. I added an extra zero, one of those "Monday details." I just looked again though and found most other sources say it is 4,000 miles.

Yeah, 15kmiles is completely rediculus to consider as a traverse, but 4 thousand makes it completely doableUnimpressed

For some perspective of the scale of this...
15k miles = ~60% of the circumference of the Earth.
4k miles = ~16%.

If you traverse the equivalent of over half way round the Equator, I will buy you a beer. Wink
