Reported from a friend: on sat the 14th at big rock a large group (that will go nameless ) estimated at 70 people placed top ropes on most routes. Making it impossible for other people to enjoy the routes, any way the bigger problem was people going through other peoples gear, including looking through my friends bag and pushing it to the ground and my rope almost being taken. (my friend borrowed it) any thoughts other then you think big rock sucks!

yeah that's a lot of people in one group, what can you do : - go somewhere else - use common courtesy, (ie.) Hey, how's it going, nice day today. I was going to jump on XYZ climb over there, but I noticed that you guys had a top rope on it. Would you mind if I lead that route. Oh and by the way, some of the people in your group have been mistakenly using our gear. I think that they assumed it was part of the group's gear. Thanks, man, have a good day. Not so hard...

OBVIOUSLY posted by a Westerner. Here in NY it would go more like this: "Hey A$$hole, you touch my F&&&'in' gear one mo' time and I'll break your F&&&in' arm off and cram it down your F&&&in' throat". Or so one would think from the crag stories floating around. I think I prefer the laid back western vibe.

oh, don't get me wrong, i am all up for dishing out some blunt force trauma when the situation necessitates it. But 38 times out of 43, the situation can be resolved easily. ie. Please don't mess with my gear. Now when we run that same sentence through the rc.com filter we get the following sentence: Yo bitch, if i ever catch yr ass monkey self even looking at my at my climbing bling bling, I swear, I will fucking send that .12a over there and then come down and kick your .6 climbing ass. you recognize.

Get there at 5 in the morning and leave before noon thats what I always do at big rock. I just went last week, got there early and took advantage of the open rock, and left at about 11:30, the funny thing is that a large group got there at around 9 ish and it started raining about 10 mins after i left, lol!

I was there that day-- it was so busy-- I couldn't believe how many people were there from this club. Despite its name, Big Rock is way too small to handle this size of a group. I heard one girl say, "Wow, there's, like, so much, like, down time here." You think??

Also, when I was there that day we ran into this situation: I led a sport route and tied off at the top, then belayed my brother up to me. So we're up at the chains and getting ready to rappel down when I realize that somone has started to lead the climb below us. I know that leaders have the right of way, but we were already up at the chains. There's just two bolts, and I'd prefer to have just two people at the top then have to share with someone that couldn't wait his turn.

Get your facts straight. There was 35 people in the group, not 70. Your rope was not stolen, or attempted to be stolen, your friend took it. As for going through your bag. You probably had cookies in there. And there were 5 top-ropes up with people climbing on them all day. And on more than one occasion others lead right past to enjoy the route. So what is the real issue? Your rat shit of a rock was invaded for one day by a bunch of new hires who didn't know shit about keeping outta your way, or with all those people out there, nobody was watching you climb and stroking your ego cause they were too busy climbing and having fun.
