I was wondering what are all the core wall climbers using as a radio on walls. I was thinking of using a Ipod with speakers but I need to be able to hear it when I'm on the lead or parting on the wall. Please this is very important I heard you can't be a true waller with out the essentials: radio, beer and illegal drugs.

Word dude... You're not Walling unless you got the tunes blasting. Nothing will get you jazzed on lead like some beats pumping from the shoulder of your belayer. But ditch the Ipod. The screens are too tiny for the belayer to mess with and they're hard to see in the bright sun. If the belayer is right handed, just have him balance this bad boy on his left shoulder: You can bring all your tapes this way, and pop in anything you want when your ready for the big lead. Unlike your Ipod, there is no running out of storage; and you are only limited by however many tapes you are willing to bring. But most of all, it has all the power you need to stay amped when you're 150 feet away pushing it up on the sharp end.

Aren't you required to have a ghetto blaster? I thought they checked for that, like they would for Park Pass or camping permit. :)

Is there a particular radio (personally I would bring a tape deck) suited for big walls? I thought I heard about Petzl making one.

i brought a fairly large boombox up my last wall and a minidisc player hooked to the a/v port in the back of the thing. it was an old panasonic. made the wall pretty rad as i could pick up radio stations in merced.

Listening to music is a luxury up there. I personally like the silence but I have had lots of partners that can't live without something. They have everything from Ipods to little FM radios, to full on mini blasters. Just don't bring anything up you don't want broken. Walls have a tendency to break everything (sometimes even yourself). Good luck and "Crank that shit up man"
