Use a LARGE ice pick, just be carefull to keep the point from piercing the sheath.

the icepick was good advice. I also would sugest a vice on the rope, since it helped and was knot damaging. thanks

I don't think the vise, or any other metal device that will crush the rope would be such a good idea.

I usually work a biner into the knot to loosen it up when I'm out and about.

I agree with that, if it can be avoided. this rope was shock loaded with a very large load, and being 1/2 in. static. it was frozen stiff and pulled too tight to budge.

I don't know, but do you really think the vise would hurt a static line? I realize it could serious injure a dynamic, but didn't think it would do any harm to a static.

Try cutting like they did in Vertical Limit. That movie was awesome. I use everything they did in that movie and it really works. Last night I cut my dad loose.

i never got how they even fell the people above them in that movie. It gives people the wrong idea about climbing jest like all the movies that have climbing in them. Some one dies at the start and it goes on from there.

I think some gumbies above them started the whole chain of 'movie events'.
