I'm curious, since I own a full set of aliens (bought them prior to the sauders crack issue) I was wondering who still climbs on their aliens, and are you still as confident with their placements?

I still climb on mine. They're all from '03 or older though, except for a grey and some hybrids from '05. I've whipped on the grey, so it's still on the rack. I gave c3s a try, couldn't stand them.

Once, I managed to bash an old janky alien out of a crack with a piton. The stem was bent and the lobes were trashed, so I sent it in to CCH with a story about how I loved their gear and hoped they could fix it figuring I would have a new alien in the mail. The neve sent me one. Those guys are such douche bags.

I sent it back to Japan w/ a letter about how I just loved the great gas milage and the nifty features. I figured they would send me a new one. I never heard from them. Maybe it was a language barrier?? Fckn give me a break. OP: Yep, I still use my aliens as they didn't fall into the recall batch.

Mine have not been tested. I don't use them. I'm not sure I WILL get them tested. They're not part of the suspect batch, but its clear to me that and 3 bucks gets you a cup of coffee at Starbucks. I don't trust them and I've lost all trust in the mfg., 100%. DMT

I'm pretty sure he asked who STILL climbs on aliens. Not who WON'T climb on their aliens. That said, I still climb on my aliens.

Aliens are still on sale, REI, Rock & Snow at the Gunks, so they must be fairly confident of their quality. I have two, a blue and a green , both from 2006, and use them, although now I try to place them near another piece of pro, just in case.

I guess I'm a mealy-mouthed STILL will climb on his Aliens. I used it because it was (dammit) the only thing I had that I knew would fit on a certain piece of choss. Seeing as you're basically free-soloing on that climb WITH pro, I figured "why not?" Other'n that, I just got a new long-stem zero 'bout the size of my favorite Alien: Old Yellar. Can't wait to plug that baby in and chalk myself firmly in the WON'T category.

bobruef wrote: eastvillage wrote: Aliens are still on sale, REI really? Yeah I have had this internal debate going on too. Mine are not recall affected. Purchased prior to all this. I ended up sending them in to be tested. But if you can't trust a company to make something, and a national chain has stopped carrying them presumably for reliability and liability issues, then how can you trust that company to test them? I decided that I would not feel right selling them, and won't use them without testing, so I am having them tested. I'm still not sure if they will get used after testing, but they are a little more likely to get used.

I don't think REI ever got back into that sinking ship.. they have C3's and are probably happy with that. EMS carries aliens again though.

I returned the ones I had stamped after 2004. I didn't buy them at REI but they gave me store credit which I used to purchase C3's. The older ones, 2001-2002 I still climb on. I've taken falls on all of them at one time or another and are confident of their quality.

I still climb, and fall on angry's pre-recall era aliens all the times, buhawhawhaw!!! There are about the only SLCDs that I feel good about having 2 well placed lobes. Maybe I should be more gentle on them, cause when they wear out...

The last time I fell on one of my buddy's Aliens (not mine, I've never liked them), which was placed only 5 or 6 feet below me, I was prepared for a good 40+ footer - I had no expectation that it would hold a fall. It did hold though, and several more subsequent falls. So, I still do climb on Aliens - therein I feel about as good as I do when I'm above one of my 14 year old slung hexes. In other words - yes, I have poor judgment.

Trivia: REI started selling aliens again about a year ago. It lasted for about a month or so, and then they stopped selling them again. They must not have been happy with CCH's post-recall quality-control procedures.
