Does anyone have the plans for turning your old rope into a rug. I thought it would look great on the front step of my house.

Okay, we have a few votes, but we need more... otherwise it looks like a PIPE is going to be the number one use of old gear... What does that do for our reputation, huh?

Okay, here's the top 10 so far:

ROPE HAMMOCKS is first, followed by wind chimes, then the last of the top 10, in no particular order:
3. Rope Rugs
30. Daisy chains and caribiners for a dog leash
65. Hanging bunk beds from old portaledges, or with rope, biners, and boards
98. Use a creative combination of climbing gear… (Ice axe, big bro, ascenders, etc.) to make a “pipe.” (a.k.a. “paraphernalia” - This has probably been done a lot!)
101. Nearly any piece of old climbing gear can be turned in to a bottle opener.
8. Christmas tree ornaments!
20. Rear view mirror gear!
47. Make a slack line with old biners (for the pulley system) and webbing

VOTE HERE: http://www.buenavistaclimbingclub.com/101Gear.htm if you want to change the results!

Okay, as of January 8th, 2006, these are the top 10 from the list:

3. Rope Rugs
10. Rope hammocks
101. Nearly any piece of old climbing gear can be turned in to a bottle opener.
1. Figure 8 Wind Chime/Gear Wind chimes
65. Hanging bunk beds from old portaledges, or with rope, biners, and boards
30. Daisy chains and caribiners for a dog leash
47. Make a slack line with old biners (for the pulley system) and webbing
89. Make nothing out of your old gear. In other words, Weld/melt your gear together and sell it for thousands at a modern art museum in New York
98. Use a creative combination of climbing gear… (Ice axe, big bro, ascenders, etc.) to make a “pipe.” (a.k.a. “paraphernalia” - This has probably been done a lot!)
8. Christmas tree ornaments!

Of course, a few of them are tied, and the last one (8.) is actually one of many tied for number ten. (I just picked it alphabetically.)

So, keep on voting, and eventually we'll have to edit the ones that nobody seems to like! I'll post those next...

Okay, here is a list of the items that haven't gotten a SINGLE VOTE! If anyone thinks they are good ideas, then you'd better hurry up and cast a vote or they may be lost forever, traded for something like " making a Christmas wreath from old caribiners and gear." Here they are, the rejects to date:

7. Knotted ropes for training
11. Chalk bag fleece to make gloves (sewing skills)
14. Hangman’s noose!
22. Jimmy-rig a volleyball net
40. Integrated children’s learning blocks with old hexes (Hex pyramid)
46. High density foam from crash pad as suspension bolt gasket (or other gasket type)
50. Retired biners are good for hauling cans of bear spray
55. Sell old gear on eBay to make a sleazy buck or two! (not recommended!)
79. Rope bridge from… old ropes! (and webbing)
80. Lashings from old rope and webbing (make LOTS of things with lashings…)
83. Weave a basket from rope… (Elaborate: how about a basketball hoop?)
86. Toys for your pets… rope bones (dogs), dangling things (cats), etc.
88. Use an old helmet as a planter... even better, a CHIA PET!

Oh, yes, don't forget to vote here:

51. Make a hobby out of painting things that really don't need to be painted... i.e. retired hexes sitting around - paint flowers or climbers or something on them.

That totally made my day... lmao

i'd be willing to bet that while it's not very creative... most people just use their old biners as "gear" biners... i.e... non-essential/life threatening securing of equipment or items. It's by far not the coolest answer, but i'd bet it's hands down the most common.

i've personally used a quickdraw as a makeshift banana hanger before... it works great until you've got only 1 banana left.

additionally... while i've never seen anyone wear them permanently or for more than just a few hysterical seconds... i know for a fact that dudes/ladies with 1/3" or bigger plugs in their ears could benefit from a fine pair of "BIN-EARS" ... i.e... biners as earrings. See also lips etc.

Normally I use a Spirit to hold my keys and open beer bottles but at the moment said biner is holding my car's muffler so it doesn't fall off.
