Josh, you absolutely do not, under any circumstances, want to climb at Camelback Mountain. First of all, because it will be hotter than f*ck (yesterday it was 108 here at midday and still 91 at 8:30pm, got me?) and secondly, because Camelback is choss and SUCKS A$$!! If your nephew has balance and coordination problems, you also want to avoid Camelback because the whole friggin' mountain is a pile of choss, including general approaching and descending....FOR INSTANCE, a couple years ago I managed to slip and fall on a portion of the walk off (despite trying to be OH-so-careful with my footing), simultaneously driving my left hand so hard into a volcanic rock I was using for balance that I should have gotten stitches in my thumb! (I will not go into the degree of pain and nausea experienced directly afterward, nor the rubber glove I had to wear for like A WEEK every time I showered so as not to disintegrate the bandages all over my hand.) THEN, against my better judgment, I took a partner there in February because "it was close and convenient" and I ended up pulling off a GIANORMOUS friggin hold on lead which crashed into my lower leg (along with part of the wall), causing a knot of scar tissue and a large scar that persists to this day, as well launching a small avalanche down the gully below us into a free fall off the cliff to god-knows-where in the process. Basically, my friend, Camelback is PETRIFIED MUD. I'M BEING SERIOUS.

If a full day trip is not an option for you, I cannot think of any truly suitable place to climb locally at this time of year unless you can get out about 5 am, stay in shade all day, and beat a retreat by around 11 am. I can't think of anywhere except Queen Creek Mine Area that this doable, and QC will be about a 1 hour drive each way. Closer places like Little Granite Mountain or McDowells are mainly trad lines, will involve longer approaches, harder climbs, less likelihood of multiple easy lines on a single crag in the shade, etc. Sorry bro.

d-dub979-
Yeah, I would love to head to Mt. Lemmon on the 9th. I can even drive (I live in Mesa), or can meet you down there. Let me know if you still want to go. PM me if want to go.

I climb solid 5.9 on top rope and 5.8 in lead. I've got my own gear for leading and setting up anchors. I have never climbed in this area and am looking forward to get to know, what I hear, is great climbing.Wink

Thanks for being in touch!

My climbing day has been narrowed down to the 17th of June - anyone in for a partner? - I am really eager to check out the Phoenix rock Cool

It is a short notice, but anyone interested in climbing Sunday the 17th? My partner's car is jacked and can't make it. 602-622-3021. This is my business cell phone, so don't think it is the wrong number. Leave a message.

I'm looking for a partner or 2 in the Tucson area who wants to climb somewhat regularly; at least once a week. I have very high availability and transportation.

I climb 5.8/5.9, the odd 5.10 on a top rope. I'm willing to do some travelling around the state once we get tuned in to do some multi-pitch or backcountry routes.

Oh, I doubt it. I'm old and infirm and can hardly climb out of bed anymore. I can barely get up V10 these days.

I have the month of July off for climbing and would
like to climb regularly (every day). I'll hang out in
Flag, so I'm thinking about the overlook and/or
paradise forks. Please send me an e-mail if you'd like to
climb.

Hi, I'm just starting climbing again (use to boulder, and love climbing) and need to learn the ropes, I am open on the weekends, and many days after work. I live in Tempe and am a 27F. I don't whine and am completely trainable.
