The Southeastern Climbers Coalition needs your help establishing a new approach trail for the Jamestown, AL crag. The Jamestown Trail Day is set for Saturday, June 30th.
As noted in an earlier post, the existing approach trail (which descends from the top of the cliff) has been closed. The Alabama Power Co. declined to renew the right-of-way for the section of trail that crosses their land. Currently, the only legal access to Jamestown is to rappel in from the point where powerlines cross the road.
The SCC is now establishing an approach trail from below the cliff. This will be a major project, involving chainsaws, a Bobcat and lots of bushwhacking. The SCC could use lots of help on this, so if you're a southern climber, please consider lending a hand. Lunch will be provided by the SCC for all participants.
Jamestown has the distinction of being one of the first climber-owned crags in the southeast. If you've never been there, check out the area here on rockclimbing.com.
For directions and more information, check the SCC website (http://seclimbers.org), or contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
