Does anyone know how many bouldering problems are at Blue Mounds? Enough to keep me busy for a day or two? How difficult are they?

Not sure of any "specific" bouldering problems per-say, but there are lots of areas to boulder for sure! There's a nice giant rock in the quarry that I've bouldered before. Definitely some tough problems can be made on it. As for keeping you busy a day or two, thats obviously dependent upon your skill and ability. I think there are enough routes at Blue Mounds to keep me climbing all day. Hell... if I could be there a couple days in a row, I sure would!!

On the way back from Rushmore (SD... not MN) a friend an I decided to climb at Blue Mounds. For those who are familiar with the locations, there is definitely bouldering to be done. We spent a good 3 hours playing on a few lines on the path to the quarries. We are not too simple to think that we would have gotten the FA on these lines (hell this was our 1st trip out). Nonetheless, we thought we could provide some info and pics if anyone would like to climb them. Hard boulder lines are hard to find given the quality of the stone (lots of positive ledges and such). Yet... if you want a day of easy bouldering (at most V3)... then blue mounds is the place. Once again, the boulders that we got on, were on the first path that goes right after the parking lot. This path goes towards the quarries. We did not have all that much time to explore... but I'm sure that there is probably more out there. |

I added some comments to a few of your photos. I wasn't sure which boulders you guys climbed on based on your descriptions. Regardless there's definitely bouldering to be had at BM, too bad most of it is either very easy or the landings are crappy. d.
