Dear Climbers,
I am interested in Lionel Terray's biography and was having trouble finding much information on him over the internet. Does anybody by chance know of a good source for information regarding him? I would also be interested in hearing any of your own stories surrounding the French Legend. Thanks.

one very good source to start with would be david robert's "true summit"
in it he researches into the truth behind hertzog's annapurna (and the expedition itself)
its an amazingly interesting read and in it he gives a good bio of all the four major players on that expedition----hertzog, terray, lachenel and rebuffat
plus david roberts is an AMAZING writer

there is a good bit about him in the book Annapurna. but most of that book is Maurice Herzong

First U.S. edition came out as "Borders of the Impossible". Kind of a disservice to the great original title in French (and the U.K. edition which followed suit).
Reprinted in 2000 in paperback as Conquistadors...
Hard to get for many years. But, still available from Amazon in the paperback edition.
Great read!

Gaston Rubaifat (sp) partnered with him on some of the climbs described in "Starlight and Storm" that would be another source.
I had a pair of boots designed by him in the 70's. Resoled them 8 times before converting them to XC ski boots. The modern equivilent would be Trangos, etc. You could climb 5.8 in them with no problem.
