I am with Majid, those guys are something else. I would say that it is similar to bouldering in that it has origins, finds inspiration in and derives moves from gymnastics. Like bouldering, it also involves bodily movement with little or no safety net. It is an individual sport, and can be participated in without any form of competition. Also, a lot of parkour involves climbing up stuff - sort of like bouldering. That kind of movement, whether on a rock or a brick wall, is all about letting your inner child and sense of play take over and turning the world into your playground. As far as being countercultural, I would say that for now parkour has climbing beat. Climbing has gone pretty mainstream. If you are looking for a sport that is not yet owned by corporate America, you have it... until Nike figures out how to market a parkour shoe.

While boulder rats are trying to get those pads in right position, parkour dudes are just flying over with nothing to worry about.

I'd like to throw you a little rage, or even righteous idignation, but I just don't feel you've earned it here. Please try again. Actually, I am a little pissed at the lack of effort here. This has to be a troll; there's just no way this post or the first post could be legitimate unless you were one of those 'special needs' kids... y' know, the ones that have to wear... a helmet... everywhere... oh, I see. My apologies.

That is why you always hear this from JACKEDUP " what this has to do with climbing?" following a finger &*&%%()_((&^ Anyway, I think parkour has every thing to do with climbing , in fact it is combination of stroung bouldering with great balance.

Do you follow Majid around in real life and shit up his regular conversations? Two days from now, at the Burger King Drive Thru: =Majid, =JakeD, = Unlucky Fast Food Employee Hello, may I take your order? Yes, I would like a Whopper Jr. with extra onions and rel *standing on nearby lawn with a bullhorn*: Jesus Fuck! How stupid are you? Why do I have to always hear about your damn onions! Wear a helmet, seriously, I still love that tired-ass joke after all these years! And for fuck's sake, drive-thru, dude, don't listen to this guy. Make it with regular onions! *resigned, this obviously happens a lot*: Please add those onions. They are often tasty and contain folic acid, an important nutrient. :That'll 2.34, please drive around. : Shit! I can't believe that guy is giving him the onions. I'm pissed, I better call my buddies so they can beat Majid to his house and mock him while he eats. *pulls out green dry erase marker, draws circle around Value Combo #1 with connecting arrow to breakfast menu hashbrowns, then drives around to the window* *shits pants with rage*

At some point, the marrige of Parkour, Gymnastics and training will result in a big leap in climbing standards. Maybe even on big walls. Can't wait to see it. BTW, I try running with my lad to pull some simple moves and Parkour is much more difficult than it looks.

In reply to: If you are looking for a sport that is not yet owned by corporate America, you have it... until Nike figures out how to market a parkour shoe. Adidas already tried. Their parkour specific shoe didn't work as well as some general cross trainers/running shoes that were already produced, heh. Parkour goes hand in hand with climbing. Parkour teaches you the same things about knowing how the body can move, as well as how to bail from a highball bouldering problem with a smooth landing, heh.
