i think parkour is interesting and sure there is some easy 4th class buildering sometimes but still reminds me of that "free style running" they tried to pull out in the 90's with the shoes with the skid plates in the middle

I think those Parkour rats can easily climb your little hardcore sport climb and with no rope.

I am with Majid, those guys are something else.
I would say that it is similar to bouldering in that it has origins, finds inspiration in and derives moves from gymnastics. Like bouldering, it also involves bodily movement with little or no safety net. It is an individual sport, and can be participated in without any form of competition. Also, a lot of parkour involves climbing up stuff - sort of like bouldering. That kind of movement, whether on a rock or a brick wall, is all about letting your inner child and sense of play take over and turning the world into your playground.
As far as being countercultural, I would say that for now parkour has climbing beat. Climbing has gone pretty mainstream. If you are looking for a sport that is not yet owned by corporate America, you have it... until Nike figures out how to market a parkour shoe.

Bouldering looks like a joke when it comes to Parkour. While boulder rats are trying to get those pads in right position, parkour dudes are just flying over with nothing to worry about.

At some point, the marrige of Parkour, Gymnastics and training will result in a big leap in climbing standards. Maybe even on big walls.
Can't wait to see it.
BTW, I try running with my lad to pull some simple moves and Parkour is much more difficult than it looks.
