SoCal Climbers and anyone else in the area, our local club, Semper Escendo, has booked two family campsites at Indian Cove for the night of 4 & 5 Oct. We will not need them for camping, but we are having a picnic there on Sunday.

If you are interested in camping and climbing, you can have the sites. No Charge, but I may bum a beer or three off of you.

I've got about 15 people who will be invading the site on Sunday afternoon.
If interested, my email is flaggsd@29palms.usmc.mil
or pm me on this site.
Rock On!

It sucks in Joshua tree now. Its windy and cold .I spent the night at the park and its miserable to climb today. Of course there's the future ,but don't drive long and far to climb in J.Tree now. You'll be surely disappointed.Heed the warning-go climbing elsewhere until the weather is better. Unless of course you live here and have no other choice. I'm serious.!!!!!

Hey, Enigma. Just wait a day.. It will change. Besides, it's not gonna get any warmer. Ya know, that little thing called winter is on it's way soon.

All

So far Scepter and Graniterat have replied. I would suspect that there is room for one or two more.

These are two family sites and they say you can park six cars at a family site.

Let me know soon if you want it.

Its too windy to climb in J.Tree now. Sorry you're stuck there, but tell the truth to the poor unsuspecting climbers who have to travel there.

It's absurd to say it's too windy to climb there. I spent Tues & Weds climbing in the park. Windy? Yes. Chilly? A bit. Bad weather for jtree? Get real. Temps were in the 60's and 70's and the wind was probably 20 mph with gusts to 40 mph. Just enough to make climber/belayer verbal communication problematic if you didn't have line of sight.

It's not ideal weather but all around it was pretty nice. There are plenty of places to avoid the wind and cold in the park as well, if you know where to look.

I guess you found the only spot, everyone I met who was camping at the park didn't climb. It was very, very windy. I guess some people are willing to put up with unpleasant conditions, some people climb at the Arctic Circle too,.Wish you the best though.

Hey,

I'm just glad any day it's less than 115 degrees in the shade!!! I'll take the wind any day climbing inside the oven.

enigma~

Where were you climbing? There are plenty of places to climb at J-Tree that are out of the wind. Of course they are out of the sun, too, but that shouldn't be an issue if it's 60-70 degrees out.

What are you talking about??? this is THE best time of year to climb in JT. I have been itching for Oct / Nov for Josh! Plus, all you gotta do is travel with the sun all day, rocks warm, cool wind gusts, can't beat it! And that's why North Face makes such GREAT all weather apparel. Will be in Josh this weekend, anyone, anyone?

I was just there on Sunday and it was cool at 8:30 am when we started up the front of Queen Mountain and by the time we came down the back and headed down 49 palms canyon it was starting to get toasty.
I highly recommend the hike and there are all sorts of faces up on top there that see very little traffic, if any.
October is the best time to climb at JTree though. I will be at Indian Cove Oct 16-20. Stop by and say hi if ya want.

Nikkky, obviously you weren't at Josh
Tree on Tuesday and Wednesday.
I would like to say I usually find the weather great in J.Tree in October, unfortuately this was not the case this week. Unfortuately some people who live around J.Tree are just thankful for a lull from the heat. Not everyone lives in a place that the heat is four months out of the year unbearable. My e-mail was written for those who are planning on traveling far to climb at J.Tree and have other options where the weather is not extremely windy. For those who are there, hope the weather is pleasant for all.

Just a quick weather report for those of you who don't live in the area.

81°F
Fair Feels Like
79°F
UV Index: 0 Minimal
Dew Point: 44°F
Humidity: 27%
Visibility: Unlimited miles
Pressure: 29.82 inches and steady
Wind: From the East Southeast at 5 mph

5 MPH that's a record low.

Enigma,
Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as a smartaxx, but my point was that the weather will change and change often. I knew that it would be good by the weekend. You are right though, there were a couple of days this week that were really windy. Happens all the time, just wait it out, or hunker down in a protected area.
