well I am a female but I can do four pull ups from a complete dead hang and two two finger pullups from complete dead hangs and four crimper pullups from complete dead hangs. kina wierd I know, my coaches haven't figured out why i was a ble to di crimper pullups b/f normal pullups, sometimes they got really frustrated about it but i thought it was funny.
sorry mispellled a couple of things but the two finger pullups were done on the crimper section of a finger board. as well as the normal crimper pullups.
please define "normal" : hands in pronation or supination, bar or not, distance between hands, front or nose or chin up to the bar?, excentric phase until forearms at 90° or arms completely extended...
i think a normal pull up is, hands 1-1 1/2 feet apart on bar or two jugs or finger board or the pullup climbing holds that hang. and not a chin up a pull up, which is palm of hand facing away from body and your chin must at least reach what you are holding to complete the pullup.
climbordie7's explanation is basically what I think of as a normal pull-up. Hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, palms facing away from body, pull up until your face is equal or above bar/jugs, down all the way (arm fully extended) in between pullups (not down to 90 degree angle) and you can hold the bar/jugs with whole hand (not just fingertips). Well... I just repeated exactly what she just posted...
i didn't know it would take you this long to actually tell me how many pullups you can do. i mean i really am not proud of the number of pull ups i am capable of and wish the number was alot higher so if thats why you havn't answered just come clean no one is going to make fun of you. well i won't i am not so sure about other!

Scott, hurry and answer, didn't you know that number of pullups is the best way to flirt, particularly if you're at least in the 20-30 range, and climbordie is so excited to know!
Two sets of 20, and I add a 20 lb weight on the second set. At least that's what I do in my gym workout 3X a week. Never gone for a one-time maximum. And I used to do sets of 25, but felt like I might have been doing more harm than good. I've read on this site where some people think it's a waste of time, but it's helped me. (I weigh about 170, btw.)
yall are retarted i am not like that and that would be a little to old for me. sorry. i am the kind of girl who climbs with guys all day long and dosn't care about girly things like looks and boys. hello rock climber.
not that other girl climbers can't be that way but all my guy friends consider me one of the guys and would be kinda grossed out if i liked one of them.

I can do sets of 40 and 2 right one arms, 1 left one arm. I also do pullups with a dumbell 80lb + between my feet on a regular basis. This pullup strength only helps for super powerfull moves(campus) and really doesn't seem to do much for normal climbing. I also weigh 185LBS.
thats is awesome, I've been climbing like 5 to 6 days a week for a little over 2 years and it took me like a year and a half to get my fisrt pullup its hard on us girls.
Dang, some strong folks in here. I have to kill myself to do 12.
You're talking about one-arms? That's pretty manly, right? Pffft...still weak! I do one finger pullups with 20lbs and I still get bored before tired. That's howcome I can send your 5.7- proj, dude! If you put down that pillow you've been biting, work it like you jerk it, and drink a gallon of half/half like I do everyday ...Hell, I might be seeing on my proj in a while: Weenie Hut, 5.8.........+

LOL...well lemme make you feel better ( or not)..I know a GIRL and she climbs 11a, 11b no problem....and then I find out...she cant do a single pull-up now can you imagine if she can do 12 pullups like you
okay this is getting a bit out of hand weren't we supposed to be telling others how many we can do not how much better we are than another, aka how much better yall are than me, not that i care.
one thing that has helped me get stronger really fast is working on the roof of the cave at the climbing gym i work at. if i work on that a lot i am usually reaping the benefits in no time.

I am not sure if you are addressing this to me, but since you are responding to my post, I guess you are. I wasn't trying to say that I'm "better" then anyone. It's just pull-ups, and I don't consider my numbers particularly impressive. But if your profile is correct, you boulder at least couple grades harder than me, so hopefully that makes you feel better -- as well as proving yet again than the ability to do pull-ups has very little to do with how well someone climbs.

Agree. Climbing (and down-climbing) overhanging walls at the gym is, I think, what caused an increase in my arm strength and the consequential ability to do pull-ups.
