I'm new to the area, a student, and am hoping to head to head up sometime in September, probably some of these first few weeks. If anyone is interested, post and we'll see. I'm looking to get familiarity with the area. Thanks in advance.

Enjoy it man, I think there might be a guide on drtopo for the area. It's not too hard to find your way around and there's lots to climb. Not sure how active the climbing club is at VT right now, but check it out.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not at Tech, I'm at Roanoke, McAfee is literally right up the road. Weekdays are gonna be bad for me. This is my first week of classes, so I'm gonna just keep things low-key, but sometime I will be heading up. At the earliest maybe Saturday.

Subscribe to the VT listserv anyways...Those guys come up every once in a while with a big group for an evening trip. It's pretty cool having a couple of lanterns and ten or so headlamps and pads at night. First week of classes? It's the perfect time to go. Weekends are for road trips, homie! Take this with you when you go. I'll pm you with more info.

I went up on Saturday (weekends are the only time I have time...I have evening classes on M-F) It was pretty much deserted, a lot hikers, though. I don't know when I'm gonna shoot back up there. But I'll let people know. I've actually managed to get people from the school to go up (5 yesterday) so its a good deal all around. It was low key, but I sent some projects about 1.5 clicks up the trail. You all probably know what I'm talking about. Next time, we'll actually head out onto the knob. I wanted to keep it low key for the newbies. I definitely realized how out of shape I was. (I'm from South Dakota, we don't have rocks or trees or hills) Time to get back into the swing.
