While working at the gym on Saturday I see Adam and Karen walk through the front door and decide to ignore the children screaming for belays to go welcome them to Canadaland. Unfortunately I was stuck belaying for the next four hours but my California friends were able to climb and mingle with some of the locals. After a great dinner, many stories (I swore I told everyone about the chocolate, wonder how it slipped my mind ), a little Hard Grit, and browsing photo albums we crashed in order to wake up and sample the local bouldering before getting back to various commitments. Sunday has us waking to crisp cool temps, perfect for a day at the Niagara Glen.
http://www.rockclimbing.com/...Detailed=7664 width= As with most trips to the Glen we started on the ever popular Danzig boulder where Adam quickly discovered that the footholds on popular limestone problems double as mirrors. Here he is on the classic V1/3 No U-turn working on being a little more dynamic after discovering that not every problem will go static
My way of dealing with the greasy glassy footholds was to just snap one off of the (also classic) start of Life Of Reilly. Appologies to anyone who wonders why the problem feels different now Eventually we made our way down to the Old Country where we played on the "birth canal" problem formed by water running through a hole in one of the boulders. This problem is a must try if you're at the Glen, hopefully Adam or Karen will have some shots of it The shot below of Laura was from the week before, but here we are on Ripple:
http://www.rockclimbing.com/...Detailed=7665 width= http://www.rockclimbing.com/...Detailed=7667 width=
Around this time Grant (darkside) wandered over and found us and we headed over to the Land of Oz for some highball fun. After everyone topped out on the 20foot problem Reg (raganwald) popped his head around the corner and was introduced to the gang.
While playing on the warm-up boulders I made up a slopey mantle problem which, although contrived, managed to provide a bit of fun. Here Reg gives it a burn. http://www.rockclimbing.com/...Detailed=7666 width=
Unfortunately we all had to run mid-afternoon, Laura to get to work, Adam and Karen back to New York, and me to a hot shower but it was great seeing Adam and Karen again... even if just for a couple of days. Hopefully others will have their pics developed soon and will post here. For now you can set your desktop to Grant and Adam discovering what bouldering is all about:

First time to Canada and it was great!!!! Everyone made me feel like apart of their family!! My heart just wants to scream when I meet people that are so kind. Fiend's mom took us out to dinner and we laughed and told stories as the Wild Bunch!!! The Glen is a beatiful place!! Adam took me after to see the amazing Falls!!! I just want to say thank you all for everything!!! I couldn't ask for a better weekend.

Grant rules !!! What do you think we wre talking about sitting on that crash pad at a bouldering Area ??? TRAD !!! Had a great time, and thanx to Mark and his "mum" for the hospitality. I was very impressed by the beauty of the Area, and even more impressed by the "activity" of the climbers to Access isues. I wish that all climbers "South of the Border" were as active and responsible as those that I met at The Glenn.
