Hi everyone!
A) Twiss rock was NOT discovered in the 70s, just a point I'd like to make
B) This place is NOT V0's, I don't know the rating system that well but I do know that there are some tough climbs.
C) There's a lot more to it than just the part that faces the road.
D) Screw the guide, let's give this place a proper name that we can all agree on.
So if anyone is interested, Downshift and I are planning on going to the area with maps and stuff and mapping the place out. There are a lot of deep cracks and caves and rock faces all around that area, by that I mean within a few meters of the road. The guide makes no mention of the very deep, often twenty to thirty feet deep, hole in the ground just past the road.
The reason why I'm so keen on this place is because it's really close, it provides a wide range of easy and challenging climbs, it's really close, and of course, it's really close. Repetition is the key to emphasis.

It's been Called Sunset for years, but it's on Twiss Road. I've never heard it called Manitou.
If you guys want to get me the maps you make, I make digital maps (GIS) for a living, for the Regional government here, I'll see if I can get you soem surrounding features or maybe and aerial photo...just don't tell my boss .

Sunset has been called Manitou since the 1950's the founders of the Scout camp initially discovered it and named it after the camp since it is right at the camps entrance. We'll pass on the map as soon as we create one, probably won't be for a while climbing takes priority over mapping for now.
You work for a reigion... That's pretty cool I work for a local Municipality.

yo krillen, any maps you could score us would be sweet. And the fact that you do gis is even sweeter, we could really start mapping out the entire region, spend a weekend here or there, we could make the horseshoe the best mapped out section of the universe.
And krillen, any job openings at your place?

Just have to watch it, too much mapping data usage etc. and I could find myself walking with a pink piece of paper in my hand. I only have access to Data for this area (Nemo, Buffalo, Rattlesnake, Kelso) and it really won't tell you much. If any of you has a GPS I could map those point with some usable info...
check the Halton Regional website. it'll tell you if there are jobs or not.

I work for the City of Brampton in the I.T. department as the Telecom Analyst (I manage the phone systems) and currently we have no GIS openings. I'll let you know if we do. Our GIS department is sorta young so it may start expanding soon. As for a GPS I do have one. I will start taking co-oridinates and adding them to the site. I just keep forgetting to grab the thing everytime I go out climbing.

I think it might be as simple as: There's a great sunset there? It's west facing and on a clear day you can climb right until dark.

Nuts I thought that it would be something cooler, although you're right, we do climb there until just past sunset with no real problems.

Did I mention the last time I was at Twiss / Sunset I found two decent top rope routes. Haven't tried them so once I do I'll get some beta posted about them.

Show me, we will take pictures and have them analysed by forensic scientists from the FBI office in Langely. I refute you "top rope" discovery. Most of that neck of the woods is, well woods! We'd need a few machetes in there!

Top rope!! Aww come on, you can't be talking about those gullies. Sure they're neat and all but you could survive with just a crashpad or two and a good spotter. Forego the environmental rape and leave them hidden, they're way more fun to check out that way. Course if you know of some 50ft deep stuff or a nice bottomless hole then feed me more beta

Actually some are pretty deep, some don't even get daylight at high noon. Some are even haunted by an ancient pirate crew that crashed there when the golden horeshoe was submerged under water...
Okay I made that last part up.

C_plante is right there are a few deep crevasses around twiss. I think last time I hiked it they went for about 1 km or so. There is alot of deep cracks with decent climbs in them. You'd need to top rope most of them because I don't remember the crash area being too safe for bouldering.

Actually there are some cracks that I've never been to the bottom of, could never figure out a safe way. I've seen lots of garbage down in some of those bottomless pits, but I think people just chuck 'em down there.
