Hey All,
Over the weekend, one of my good friends had his car, and everything in it, which amounted to all of his worldly possessions stolen in Salt Lake. He was on his way home from a 4 month climbing road trip across the country. The car is insured, but the contents, which you can imagine were extensive, will likely not be covered. Adam is one of my closest friends and best climbing partners, and the loss of all of his outdoor equipment, including his rack, rope, outerwear, camping gear, not to mention all of his clothes has been devastating for him. That being said, I promised Adam that I would make a post which described just the climbing gear that was stolen in a desperate attempt to track it down. If I could, I would like to ask each of you to help me and him keep a lookout for his stuff on ebay, rc.com, and any other venu where somebody might attempt to sell it in some sort of package, or individually. I know I'm grasping at straws, but if you take a look at the list, you'll see that it's worth a shot. (for what it's worth, 99% of his hardware has maroon rack tags in case the perp. doesn't think to remove them) PM me with any info. Thanks!

This might be a stupid question but did your friend have renter's insurance by chance?

Unfortunately no, when he wasn't living out of his tent, he was with friends or home with the parents.

home owners/renters ins cover contents of the car as it is an extension of your home (esp if your sleeping in it or camping out of it). can his parents do the claim for him?

it's ah hell of a world we live in these days.

Man that sucks.

But he should see if his parents would be willing to file a claim against their Homeowners Insurance for him. My parents did that for me when my skis were stolen. There is a risk that their rates may be increased, so they may not be willing to take that risk, but just a thought. Anyway, I'll keep my eyes open.

Keep in mind this is another method of fencing stolen goods:
