So I searched the routes database and also the thread history and I could not find much information on routes or boulder problems near Chapel Hill ie. within 1.5 hours drive. There are Roxboro and Liberty Hill but little beta was given so I am wondering if there is sufficient climbing at either of these places for a day for someone who warms up on something harder than a V1? Any beta would be great.

Roxboro bouders have a few fairly hard problems, though I would not recommend it if you have enough time to drive to the Sauratowns. If you do go, park at the end of the gravel road on the south side of the mtn and walk up. The landowner used to be okay with that. There are 3 main area's at Roxboro boulders (aka Hagers Mtn by the locals). The better bouldering area seemed to be on the eastern edge of the mountain. The middle and the western end have stuff that could also be top-roped. Keep in mind that that rock is very rough on the hands due to the plethera of sharpish holds.

If you are from Boone you might be disappointed with Hagers Mtn, or anything east of Moores for that matter. In my opinion, it does beat the gym though. It's too bad that Asheboro is not quite open yet, that's a pretty cool place.

I was cycling in at Lake Crabtree this weekend, and another cyclist mentioned that there was some ?climbing?bouldering? near the police station in Chapel Hill. I just tried to search, but found nothing. Anyone know any information??? I am new to the area and would like to find some traversing areas for the weekday.

To clarify, the climber I met said there is OUTDOOR climbing in CHAPEL HILL NC. It is apparently near the police station in Chapel Hill. It is called something like the pump house. I searched online for more details, but found nothing. Has anyone climbed here. I THINK the area is a bridge or below a bridge. Thanks.

That is the pump tunnel, it is located under the bridge as MLK crosses Bolin creek. Don't know how well maintained it is right now.
