I am looking to buy new ice tools for my wife. She has always looked awkward with her old tools, so I am looking for something lighter and with a smaller grip. Has anyone tried the CAMP DIVAX? It is made especially for women and one of the magazines gave it a good review. It only has a single curved shaft unlike most of the new tools with the radical double curved shaft. I searched some old posts, and people said to check out the Camp AWAX. Do you think the DIVAX would be better than the AWAX?

Hi! No idea about Camps, but try Simond Najas and Anacondas. They are light (my Anacondas weight between 500gr w/o shovel/adze and 650-700 with hammer and leash) and have small diameter shafts.

I really liked the AWAX but haven't tried the DIVAX. another light tool to think about is the Grivel X Monster, although I think the handle is "normal" sized

Divax curve is not very aggressive and probably ok choice if you do alpine and if she prefers leashes. Not actually ever used them, I have used several tools with light curve and I did not like too much the fact that in certain ground it get's really hard to you fingers (especially cold weather). I have relatively small hands and I like good clearance. As a solution I got Nomics, by removing the weight, tools get quite bit lighter to use. Handle is adjustable and one can fit leashes even tough tool is leashless. I'd suggest to give it a swing.

The biggest problem that a lady has is the size of her hands vs handle diameter, right? Or are there other things that really cause a problem? I'm afraid that I'm really no help, I've got pretty big hands and have no problems using the same tools as my husband. If you don't get the ladies in here responding you might consider putting up a post in the Ladies Room. I know that I've seen some ice boot discussions going on in there before.

In reply to: If you ice climb in the Catskills she can test drive my Awax's. Thanks GunkieMike, but a year too late. I just moved from the east cost to the west coast a couple of months ago, and no offense to the Catskills, but I probably won't be travelling back there for ice. Thanks for the offer!
