They vdidn't last very long and they blistered the crap out of my feet. Support and balance improvement? Just get a pair of flip flops from payless, for $40 less.

I would have say they are the most comfortable non sandals i have. I saw them in a surf shop last year and when home and bought them... You will never get a blister from them either, unless you have feet like a 2 year old... but you have climber's feet so you will be fine... Also great if you boulder or climb in the winter cause they kept my feet warm. Two thumbs up!!!!

Stay away from any of their "yoga Mat" or "beer cozy" sandals. garbage... they absorb water and foam weird and stink and the material comes out in chunks.. Still looking at getting the sidewalk surfers

I bought a pair this summer and loved them...until the stench began. I don't usually notice an odor from my shoes but these things were heinous. I'd pass.

I've got a pair of the donnys'. Hands down the most comfortable shoe I've ever had! I'll warn you, they do make your feet sweat a bit. They're awesome though, and I wouldn't trade them for anything! I've never had my feet hurt in them. I don't really wear my regular shoes much, just my sanuks!

i have a pair of sidewalk surfers, i picked up for a steal on sierratradingpost. they're a nice alternative to sandals, when you want your feet covered. But, on the negative side, they stretched out way too much and they wear out quickly. my teva flip flops last longer.

ultimately, , it;s like wearing a house slipper

My roommate has a pair of the surfers, and he's not allowed to wear them in the house, or even keep them in the house, they stay on the porch the stench is so bad.

sidewalk surfers are sweet, heres the deal..

stink?
yes they get stinky your feet stink so if you put your smelly feet in a cloth shoe it will stink.
i just wash mine in the tub with a bar off soap. its fun to shower with your shoes on and the just let them air dry

wear and tear?
they are foam and cloth, do you think that sounds rugged? i wear mine every day and got them in the summer they are fine. but if you walk alot cuz you dont have a car or are a very walking person then they will wear more. if im hiking out to a Crag or w/e and its sorta tricky terrain i will throw on a pair of real shoe with more traction and pack my sanuks to belay in or to throw on when not in rock shoes

they wont improve balance or make you run faster or jump higher, they just allow you to walk more natural.

be warned after you wear sanuks nothing is ever comforable you will become spoiled

this is just a short overview of sanuks and you can by my book "sanuks and you" in hardcover at barnes and noble

heh, nice review.

We get a lot of them returned for being way damn uncomfortable, a lot of unhappy customers. I think that you have to have a very particular foot to find them comfortable.

I've had a pair of surfers for almost a year. Every time they get too smelly I put them in the washing machine and they're good for another month or two. It probably doesn't help the durability, but they've lasted this long.

I second this. I've had some for about 18 months, worn them extensively and yes, there are a few chunks missing but they are super comfy and way better than flip flops. When they get funky, just wash them.

I bought a pair six months ago and they are holding up alright except the cushion they start with disappears in about a week. I added another insole to them and now they are more comfortable but I wish I had bought some chaco flops instead.

I've had my pair of Sanuks about 6 months. I love them! Wear 'em everywhere; to work, to the crag, on the dirtbike to the crag (not the best), on the boat, hiking, etc. The smell isn't noticeable; no worse than a sneaker. They hold up surprisingly well with just some wear to the bottom pad around the edges. The most comfortable shoe/sandal I ever owned. Buy some.

I don't know about improving balance but the are very comfortable. Good comfortable sandal to where in between climbs and around the house

Looks like Crocs has a version of them for about 50 bucks. Might want to try those. I hear those won't get as funky when it comes to smelling.

I love my sanuks. but then again, i don't have stinky beast feet like some people ive lived with...

Negatives: NOT an approach shoe, I feel like a good hike would disentigrate them, and the name "the Kerouac" pisses me off (what, are my shoes a beat poet now!?!).

Pros: Very, very comfortable. I'm now forever spoiled.

They're pretty expensive, buy the most comfortable shoes/sandals I've ever had. I have taken a few good hikes in them, but they seem to be holding up pretty well. Mine have started to stink, but that's just a transfer from my climbing shoes. If you've got the money I'd say they're worth it. So easy to get on and off.

Just fork up the dough and by a pair. You will not be dissapointed.

You can get new pairs on ebay for at least 10-15 bucks off full price

I love my sanuks. I took care of the stench by washing them and wearing thin socks. I always have em on and the first week the small muscles on my feet, I didn't know I had, were getting a work out.

i'm on my second pair... wore my first pair out a couple weeks ago and tried wearing normal shoes and couldn't do it

if you're worried about smell... just put them in the washing machine

my first pair lasted my 11 months wearing them all day every day so i'm not too worried about wear and tear.

all in all, i'm hooked and i couldn't imagine wearing anything else
