T-minus 1 day until enormous wings.
Any of you guys ever climb at Lover's Leap before? Cathy and I have to go to a wedding in San Jose next weekend, and are going to drive down.... it seems as though Lover's Leap is right on the way back. Anyone ever climb there before? Does anyone have a guidebook we could borrow?

There's a place downtown with a ton of beer selection (something like 80 world beers), I'll have to see the name, maybe we can check it out next week. Massive wings it is this week, shall we say 8:30? 9:00 for the slow fella in the group? 10:00 for the moocher who comes late and eats the leftovers?

Ok, I finally had to post, because whilst highly informative, the post pertaining to the conglomerate was in in fact a little misleading.
As far as highwood pass itself, it contains only very old carbonates (aka limestone), however as one continues south on hwy 40 towards the (I'm suspecting) now infamous mystery crag, one does in fact encounter conglomerate (aka clastic) rock. You see, if you go a little further past Cowbell you will in fact see a Cardium equivalent outcrop which is indeed not only clastic but much younger than the aforementioned 'old limestone' in highwood pass.
Cowbell is in fact conglomerate, and a very different age, formationg and rock type than the rocks one would see directly in highwood pass.
I may meet you guys on Wednesday...I will be riding until 8-8:30 or so, can I arrive disheveled?

See now you’re bringing the nature of the Thrust Faulting of the front ranges into this. Whish has resulted exposure of conglomerate and sandstone both to the north and south of the Highwood Pass. The thrust faulting in the proximity of the pass is much steeper than it is in areas such as the Bow Valley and the Ghost, where much (not all) of the climbing is through the bulk of a carbonate formations rather than on the bedding plains. Exceptions of this in the Bow Valley would be in areas such as Loder Peak and the upper Crags on Heart Mountain where Folding is the dominant structural feature exposing the bedding plains. No if we turn back to the regions to the North and South of the Highwood Pass we find that it is in fact the steepness of the thrust faulting that has allowed a relatively thin formation of conglomerate to produce cliffs comprised of exposed bedding plain.
But this is all dancing around the real point of the matter; that being the fact that if Harrison can carry my rope I have room in my pack for beers which can be conveniently stashed in the creek for after the climb.

Wow, you guys have a body of knowledge that I have very limited exposure to. I'm very, very impressed.
Now, off to compress gas.... which doesn't find any climbing rock, but does (rather poorly) pay the bills.
Oh, I wouldn't bother showing up before 9:00, since I believe their wing special starts then, otherwise it's $10.00 a pound a believe :P.
