I am not trying to start a West Coast East Coast war but for those of us in the east I would like to know what they think. Personally I would say Smugglers Notch, graet Ice climbing and skiing at Smugs and Stowe. Also best snow in the East is Jay Peak, they average more than many in the West.

This is a "NO BRAINER"...!! Mad River hands downs..the best in the east. Nothin else comes close....it's "PARADISE". Then take a little road trip up to Smugs (no ice for me)..but certainly for those who do, I'll take the lift up not the the axe!! Otherwise "Rumney" is the place to be!!! (when the snow goes)!! "Ski It If You Can" MAd River.... [ This Message was edited by: madriver on 2002-09-18 10:08 ]

Although there are resorts in the east that get more snow, my heart belongs to Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine. I've been skiing there for over 12 years and even after skiing some incredible mountains in the west, it's still my favorite place to ski. There's no climbing however.... -jj

For both ice climbing and skiing at the same location, Smugglers Notch State Park is hard to beat. Then you have Stowe and Smuggler's Notch ski areas for a ride to the top.

It seems that people in the East are very terretorial and do not like to give out beta as to where the good stuff is. This is not limited to climbing only but also Mtn Biking and other sports. Why?

Its all about availability and climber/outdoor enthusiast Vs resources look at the Daks for instance…a several years back I could climb everywhere without standing on line and have an actual line to climb without it being chopped off by a person that think that Ice climbing = Ice BASHING (look at the latest BD catalog at the picture "some dude hating it" on pg. 23 to understand what I mean) so naturally we guard our resources if we still would like to climb for the rest of the season (as u know some climbs once u chop them off will never reform for the rest of the season) it is NOT rock climbing and majority of the so call "Ice-Climbers" have no respect or ethics when it comes to ICE

If you want to head up to Canada the best spot would be Quebec City. You have Montmorency Falls right in the city and don't forget Pont-Rouge. For skiing you have Mont-Sainte-Anne and Le Massif all within an hours drive of the city.

Come down to the EV gym in NYC. I'm going to suggest they hose down the 50ft outside wall when it's below freezing out side.
