Indeed - give the dog a powerful enough electric shock if it touches the fence, and it will never get close to any fence ever again. Is that what you want - users to be gunshy of anything that anyone might think of as "too far"?

On the contrary, this has been discussed many times. Yes the boundaries are virtually impossible to define thus the need for self censorship. Generally speaking users know when they are trying to push the boundaries and it becomes somewhat of a game trying to provoke a reaction from management. We have in place several methods of placing material into posts which should cater for almost all tastes. All we ask is that if users are in doubt then simply escalate the placement of that material into the apropriate place i/e either the NSFW for directly placed images or link the material. We do not have any sort of tolerance for hard core porn. Don't even think about linking that material.
I have seen some very creative ways for people to direct other users to the material that they wish others to view even hard core porn without it having to be linked or otherwise viewable from this website. It's not that hard to get your message across if you are that way inclined. We ask this only so that this site is available to the widest cross section of the community and also so that it does not devolve down to the lowest common denominator.

Google is an awesome tool for finding images and other stuff so ifn youse are wanting to let everyone know your adolescent fantasies, don't bring em in here just let everyone know how to find it for themselves. Gotta keep a bit of mystery happening eh.

This idea was brought to me by another poster in the daisy-chains thread that I started in the gear forum. I always turn my filter on.

But isn't that exactly what clausti was doing earlier? Trying to push the boundaries? I'm not aiming to get her banned, I'm trying to clarify what is to me a very confusing and new regulation.
And when I say "new", I should clarify. The last time I saw the issue of nudity on rc.com discussed and clarified was in the aftermath of the singles of rc.com thread. What you are describing above is definitely not what was stated at that time. If I missed an important announcement in the intervening time period, forgive me, and please point me to it.
And for whatever it's worth, as a contributor to this site in many ways, I don't agree that pushing boundaries (as Clausti did earlier in ths thread) is a good reason to be banned, unless it becomes disruptive to the operation of this site.

Notice that she wasn't banned. clausti in fact corrected her post with the NSFW tag.
What we are talking about here is the blow ins who drop in a drive by shooting type of penish pics that violate our policy of NSFW images. Yes we do have a zero tolerance for those just wanting to push our buttons as mods. That statement was more aimed at the blow ins though. We do however extend the curtesy of allowing the long term members more latitude to fix issues that we bring to their notice. This may seem totally confusing but there is method to our madness.
We do discuss this sort of stuff in the mods and eds forum and do not simply ban people on a whim. It does take a lot to get banned here on rc.com. Of course the blow ins get short shifted outta here with very little discussion. You'll notice that missus foofanga of Nigeria with her scams doesn't long at all. Another issue entirely I know but it demonstrates that not all users are treated the same.
If you have a long and valued post history here then we are far less inclined to drop the hammer on you for whatever transgression may raise our hackles. I would hope that by the time one has gotten a long history here that one would know the conventions that one posts by.
The above pronouncements were in fact an attempt to clarify the existing policies of how we treat offensive or borderline images embedded in posts. It has always been a problematic issue and it seems the issue goes around and around in ever diminishing circles until someone gets banned or otherwise leaves the site in a huff. As I said more an attempt to clarify and also to reiterate.
