Hi Where can I find info (topo) on the routes that are made in Chiang Dao. Planning for a trip in feb 2008, Krabi, Lopburi and a week in Crazy Horse and if itīs any good routes, I will check out Chiang Dao. Climbing 7B so it would be nice if there is any routes in that register. /emdis

I have climbed there. It was fun, but NOTHING like Railey/Ton Sai. We spent 2 weeks working our way North and climbed there, then flew South to Krabi for 4 weeks. If you are looking for most cquality climbing time, go straight to Krabi.

Yes Krabi is very nice, been there many times, nice climbs with great view. My plan is working my way up north, Krabi, Lopburi, Chiang Mai (Crazy horse) and if itīs worth it Iīll check out Chiang Dao or we maybe go to Laos. /emdis

I thought the town was called Chiang Dao. So, all my coments were towards Crazy Horse. If you do go north, a great way to get to Chiang Mai is from the town of Pai (my favorite town in Thailand). It is really lush there with a great vibe. We white water rafted from Pai to Chiang mai...the best way to travel. I highly recommend that if rafting is remotely fun for you. We still talk about that trip 4 years later. Please post back when you return from your trip!

Hi My sense (from talking to people I know in Chiang Mai; I haven't been there myself) is that the routes in Chiang Dao are mostly pretty low level (for tourists in climbing courses) -- probably not worth too much effort getting there if you're after 7b.....Crazy Horse has a few routes that are really worthwhile (and some good rock). In Laos, there's some good pumpy stuff near Van Vieng (plus some nice looking routes up the river from Luang Prabang which would be great if the bolts weren't so obviously corroded to shit!). Your best bet for info would be Wee and Elke's latest edition (new this year, I think -- get it from Wee's shop on TonSai; it's moved but you'll find it). In Lopburi (well, not really, but close enough), a good bet would be the hardest of the three multipitch routes -- I can't remember the name, but if gives you something like 3 or 4 consecutive pitches at 6b or 6b+ (out of 5-6 pitches)....pretty steep. You can get route descriptions from Simon Foley's website -- last I checked it was more accurate than the details given in Wee's book Mike

Chiang Dao. I will find out this week about bolted routes there. Crazy Horse:- Great crag, but if your climbing harder than 7b there is really not much for you. The routes at Crazy Horse are good and there are over 120 routes. Lopburi:- If you need more infomation please get in touch. www.bamboo-escalade.com/topowatsuwannahong.pdf This is up to date. Wee's guidebook in Krabi is a must buy. Check the forum on www.simonfoley.com/climbing Hope this helps

I have been told that 'Son' at Chiang Mai Rock Climbing Adventures has been bolting at Chiang Dao. You should contact them when you are in Chiang Mai.
