Training at home

I am unable to climb for about a month because I am at home between quarters at school. I missed two weeks of climbing, and my hands are really starting to peal. What can I do to

A: Keep my strength up?
B: Keep my hands from peeling bad?

I know it sounds kinda silly, but I spent 10 weeks getting back out of a no climbing slum, and I don't want to lose a whole lot of progress.

Any suggestions?

hands -- lotion
strength -- pushups, pullups (palms away from you), crunches. you can do other crap too...grip masters, door frame hangs, hang upside down from your window sill and do vertical situps, whatever goofy stuff you want to look awesome doing.

I would recommend "Climb On" for the hands. it keeps your hands from peeling, but it doesn't make them soft.

And i agree. Push-ups, pull-ups, and crunches are just fine if you can't make it to a gym. Maybe look into getting a hangboard. There about $80 clams and worth every dollar.

Wayne,

Sometimes it's beneficial to take a break from climbing - it allows your body to heal and rest so that you can really push yourself when you get back. That said, I wouldn't recommend going without any sort of exercise/activity. Find something that you like to do and it - yoga, running, rowing, swimming, power lifting, etc. Think of it as maintenance through muscle confusion. In the end, you won't really lose that much finger strength.

I don't know about the pealing - I've never had a problem with that.
