Climbing mag Oct/Dec '07 said TonSai was semi-closed/polluted because landowner barbed wired it off and it was all polluted and businesses moved out.

Anyone have any beta on this?

My sense is that the article rather overstates the problems. Many of the rumours flying around arise from unsettled "ownership" issues for the land on Tonsai. A good perspective on this (recently updated) is at [http://www.geocities.com/wee_rocks/tonsai.html].

Having said that, I haven't been to Tonsai since last Christmas. I'll check it out in a couple of weeks and report back.

My son has been climbing there for the last month and hasn't mentioned anything...

After reading the article it seems everything is fine. Bottom line, the rocks and beach are part of a Naiotnal Park, so public access will always be available.
