Is anyone driving down to the Potrero on 12/15 or 12/16 form Texas? Two friends and I are flying in from AK to Dallas and are looking for a quicker ride to EPC than the bus. If you can fit 3 climbers and 3 backpacks we'll happily pay for the gas on the way down. We can meet up in any town from Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, to Laredo. Thanks!

It's still 2007.

Or maybe you're planning your trip REEEEEEEEEEEEEALLY far ahead.

We'll be down there from ~12/16 till 1/13. Never been there before, but it looks like a great place to climb during my month off and celebrate the holidays.

Thanks for the head's up roseraie....I'm heading down there in 2 weeks, not a YEAR and 2 weeks. I'm definitely not organized enough to plan a trip that far ahead.

Well the bus doesn't look like it would be too long (10-12 hours isn't really that bad and Mexican Car insurance costs money). I am flying down to Houston on the 25th :\ but have no car as well. Does anyone know what the difference between the 41 dollar bus ticket and the 85 dollar one is? Because they do not specify on the greyhound website. Anyways I will be down until mid February so maybe I will see you there.

Cheers

David

Thanks kyber, I'll post on that site as well. What is tamis, and is it in Austin?

Would you or anyone reading this recommend any particular bus for an overnight ride to Monterrey? I know greyhound runs there, but I heard some Mexican buses (like Los Americanos) might be a better choice for sleeping a little more comfortably.

tamis is here in the potrero, its the only place to get hot organic coffee (unless you bring your own). the bus i usually take is out of austin so i'm not sure if it will help you guys or not. but its the san luis bus station and its on east 7th street off I-35. i wouldnt know how to contact them though maybe call information? they have a bus that runs every night at 10pm to monterrey. i usually just show up at 9:30 and get my ticket (unless its a holiday). if your flying into dallas it could be a pain to get a ticket to austin, have to hang around (although austin is a great place to hang around) and then jump on another bus. i'm sure you'll figure it all out, you guys are gonna have a great time when you do finally get here thats for sure. btw, where are you guys staying?

Thanks for the info on the bus.

That's good to hear there's a good coffee shop down there. We will surely be seeing you often, as we are avid morning coffee drinkers.

We'll probably start out camping at El Posada. Since we don't really know the area, we'll see if we prefer somewhere else when we get there. If there are small houses to rent, we may consider that also since there'll be 4-5 of us. Any suggestions?

I will be staying at the Posada as well. It looks like a pretty good set up. Though homeros is a bit cheaper.. I guess I will decide when I get down.

Also, what would be the best method of getting over to el salto for a week sometime during my stay? I heard that the hostel in monterrey may do bus trips out there but I haven't seen anything else on it.

If you check into La Posada don't let them sell you Dane Bass' guidebook for 28 bucks. You can get a better book next door at Tami's for 12 dollars.

if your interested in getting a house, when you get here talk to tami. or if you want to set it up before you get here let me know and i'll tell her the dates you guys will be here and how many people you have and get you some numbers.

the only way i know to get to el salto is to ask around and find someone who wants to go and has a car. trust me its worth it although its good to keep in mind there is nothing for 10 climbers. well theres one 10 and three 11s. see you here.

Thanks kyber. I think we'll just wait and talk to folks about renting a place we get there. It would be great to get a place if it's cheap, but it doesn't bother us to camp the whole time either. We'll see you down there a week from today!

Cheers
