google a knee diagram and you'll be able to pinpoint the problem. have you been running a lot? if not, you may need to run inside for a while. i warm up inside on a treadmill first, then run outside this time of year.

probably some punctuation......
and a more detailed description, including:
1)where in your knee
2) anything else aggravate it?
3) anything besides sitting down make it better?
4) any swelling?
5) any previous injuries to your knee?
6) how often do you run? for how long at a time?
7) how old are you? male/female?
8)etc., etc., etc.....

how the hell is someone supposed to help you when all they know is a "piercing pain in your knee"????Unsure

Not to be a wise guy, but it could be anything from patellofemoral syndrome to torn meniscus to arthritis to bursitis, to synovitis, to tendinitis, to bone cancer. (as well as many other things)

Knees are particularly difficult to diagnose/evaluate without seeing them. See a good ortopedist who treats athletes.
