I'm going to hawaii in may, nominally for my sisters wedding on maui but actually to climb. I gather from this, and several other websites, that climbing is extremely limited on maui, so is it really expensive to pop to a different island (O'ahu looks pretty good)? Also is there any camping near the climbing that is cheap?

It’s inexpensive to get a plane ticket to Oahu. I don’t know if there are any established camp grounds in the climbing areas but you are free to simply camp right at the base of the climbing site if you wish. The north shore climbing area is on public property and from what I understand there are no restrictions on its usage. The only thing I would advise against is making a camp fire because the fire dept. may come up and think there is a fire. From what I gather Oahu is really the only island with climbing. I can show you around the climbing sites when you get here if you wish.

hey! I can't beleive it, but my trip is finally nearly here... If your still on the island, it would be great to meet up, the climbing looks a bit tricky to find and we could do with some local knowledge. We'll hopefully get to the island on the 16th may, so post a reply if your free!

I get back on the 16th from a two week long climbing trip however I would be free to show you around. Hit me up with a PM with your number and I will give you a call when I get in on the 16th.

the climbing isn't hard to find. go to i think... http://climboahu.com talk to the bug man, he'll give you accurate directions and not to mention... you could actually go and climb by yourself if you have a gri gri, or a soloist (or some other such device) They have a pretty unique system of tethers with which you can thread your rope through the anchors from the ground. pm me if any of that is confusing
