Anyone checking here very often? I'm moving to Lancaster County this August and I'd like to find folks for trips to Gunks, Seneca, and NRG this fall. These days I'm leading 5.8 at the Gunks, hoping to push back into the 9s by the end of the calendar year while enjoying a lot of quality mid-atlantic rock. Please contact me by PM or post up if you might be up for climbing sometime.

Hi, I'm Marco from Erie, PA - I'm new about the area - I have 5.10 leading experience on rock and 4th grade on ice on the italian Alps. I might be up for some week end trip, let me know about your plans.

Can anyone tell me what is up with the PAC? Its website, http://www.paclimbers.org/ , has stale info, especially regarding access.

I guess I'll just chat with myself a bit. Perhaps I'll say something interesting enough to draw a couple PA folk out of their shells.

Don't really know what's going on but with GS closed and Safe Harbor stuck in some kind of mysterious access limbo, there's not much need for an advocacy group to do anything.

I am a relatively new climber, I have been climbing since May of 2006, since then I started bouldering then I have recently moved onto sport climbing, now I would really like to learn trad. I will ideally be using trad for rest days just to relax and still climb. I can contribute beer or rides to said mentor. Any and all help is appreciated. If it matters I am 21 and I can honestly careless how old the mentor is provided they know what they are doing and aren’t going to teach me something that will get me or my other partners killed. Thanks again Edit: I should mention i am comfrotable climbing 9+ or even 10a depending on the style

Hola, I was hoping some one could give me the low down on Haycock...where some of the better problems are or which ones aren't worth looking at, or other useful info. My buddy and I want to do a day trip over thanksgiving eastern PA where we both grew up but we learned to climb @ college in pittsburgh so we have no clue whats back home. I heard a few goodthings about Haycock so I figured I'd try to find out more about it.\ Thanks, Chris

Hey getsome, there are cool people here. I'm up North in canyon country, but I know there are good people and climbs in your area. PM me for more. Question for anyone: I'm looking to go to Seneca this weekend, but it's to be colder there than here. I'm debating on finding some closer PA climb that has some height for trad climbing vs going to WV or even NC. Anyhow, my question is: What's the tallest climbs in the state? High Rocks? How 'bout warmest climbs in PA?

I am visiting family in State College, and surrounding areas in may, I would very much like to get some climbing in. Where are some good areas with sport climbs up to 5.12 or perhaps above... or bouldering areas with some sweet V5-V9's?? which aren't to far away from the area I'll be in? Lang

For trad? WTF? Anyway, The Delaware Water Gap has tons of 2-3 pitch climbs on high quality gunks-like quartzite. Many people say it is loose and chossy, but if you stay on the trade routes, they are clean and fun. On top of that, no crowds and a gorgeous setting!

Thanks for the replies. Good reminder on DWG. We went to Seneca anyhow. Got some great "5.4"'s in. Le Gourmet was great. Especially since Keith led the airy traverse (much "airier" than Skyline). Hed a dark, rainy rope rescue on our last rappel. Thank God for an understanding wife and forgiving friend. A real blessing to witness Peter Absolon's memorial service. What an impact he had on the climbing community. May he be soloing peaks in the great beyond.

Hi My name is Chris and I love to climb. I'm not that good (yet) but I have the gear (rope, four harnesses, three sets shoes, biners, ATC, and webbing) and transportation (96 Tacoma with a bad suspension). I'm at Haycock most weekdays and Stover every weekend. If you want to come with and put me to shame, PM me.

Does anyone have any beta on the Whaleback Anticline near Shamokin? I've seen the database entry on rockclimbing.com (not much there) seen a few photos on-line, but most of it is from geological sites. the rock is supposed to be carbonaceous shale--doesn't sound good does it? Shale? However, on http://www.paclimbing.com/featured_photos_page.htm you see Rob Holzman leading "Whaleback Crack" on Whale Wall. this is the same place right? I'd like to drive up there in July but gas is expensive and there's lots of climbing out there. Any experiences/advice would be appreciated.

The whaleback is awesome. The rock is actually kinda cool, despite the fact that it's shale. Remember, stover is shale too, but I think the whaleback is much cooler rock. One of the routes at the whaleback has a 10 foot fossilized fern in the rock. How cool it that! There are a few nice cracks, and most routes that go to the top are walkoffs. The cliff is about 300 feet high I believe, and there are not many rap stations. I don't know much as far as route beta, but if you send rob an email, he'd prolly help you out... he's a cool dude. Go to paclimbing.com for his info.
