I'm headed to Vegas at the end of January. Although I've climbed there MANY times my last visit was in 2004. I have the Swain 2000 Falcon guide. I heard that there is a new guide book with lots of additional routes.
Can someone tell me if it's worth ordering the new book if my only intention is sport climbing. Are there any new sport areas/routes. If so - any recommendations for the new stuff??? Don't care about grades but will need the sun.

I've never used the 2000 Swain Falcon Guide, but I just got the new Red Rocks Guide book and it's incredible. Great topos and visuals of the routes. A lot of routes mapped out right on actual photographs. Shows all the sport and trad routes along with a good description of recommended racks to bring on each route. Also gives descriptions of when they get the most sun. All in all a great guide. You can get it here http://www.redrocksguidebook.com/

Just got back from Red Rocks for the Rendezvous and while there I picked up Red Rocks A Climbers Guide by Jerry Handren. The book is great. It has maps on how to get to routes and color pictures of almost each and every route. Also has a very good description of every route. Worth the buy

Not to be too super-anal but it's Jerry Handren, and yes, that is a rad guidebook.

i havent seen the falcon guide, but the new guide is awesome and well worth the money. When i was debating buying the new book, i read reviews online of the older ones, and i heard that the beta about approaches/sun exposure/bolt numbers, etc were wrong. here is the book you have on amazon, with some negative reviews (http://www.amazon.com/Rock-Climbing-Red-Rocks-3rd/dp/1560448970) Also, though there might not be any new areas, but there are a lot of new routes that have been put up. I was flipping through the new guide and saw a few routes that were first put up in the late 90's (in the calico basin area) and a few newer routes in the calico hills area (Man's Best Friend was put up in 2007, 2 pitch sport route :)). In any case, i would buy the new guide

If your looking at doing some bouldering while in southern Nevada and/or Red Rocks consider the new bouldering guide by Tom Moulin: Southern Nevada Bouldering.
It has been receiving great reviews and is available at snellpress.com
