ok heres a two part question, 1) could someone explain to me the basic concepts of climbing competitions 2) im thinking about competing, and id like to know what to join or how to get in on it thanks again, vijay

There are different types of competitions and the rules differ from comp to comp. Here's a common scene. You register in a category. Beginner=easy top rope Intermediate= harder top rope Open= hardest category, lead only (there are many variations on this) Once you have a category you have to send some qualifiers. You get points for the level of completion of your qualifying routes. The climbers with the highest points go on to finals. Many comps put you in iso(lation) so that you can't see the routes or anyone else climbing them until it's your turn. You generally only get one try on a route. For finals, the climber who makes it the farthest on the route(s) set for the finals wins. There are also speed, bouldering, and dyno competitions. Oh yeah, there's usually a swimsuit competition too so don't forget to wax that bikini section. To enter small competitions just call up the host and register.
