So I've been blessed to move from my home rock of LCC in Salt Lake City to the glory that is Hampton, VA. There has to be at least some gems somewhere within 20-30 minutes. Even some stuff you'd see on the cover of Urban Climber, I don't care. Can anyone fill me in? I've been down to VA Beach Rock Gym, but trying to get through the tunnel on a weeknight... not so fun. Anyone else feeling my pain or have some insight? Let me know Thanks all

I spend a week in Hampton VA and bought a car from V beach and drove to CA back in 80s. Pretty flat and totally a death sentence for a climber.

You mean a 7 foot tall block of choss with angsty, racist, high school grafitti scrawled across it? If you're there for the long haul, it looks like it's time to pick up a new hobby. Virginia Beach does, in fact, equal hell.

Look on the bright side... your 30 minutes to an hour depending on traffic closer to Old Rag, Seneca etc. than I.

i've lived in Hampton, near Buckroe Beach. vball in the sand, bikini girls, plenty of fun in the sun. pretty sure hell is a lot worse than that enjoy what an area offers. if climbing is truly that important, more than anything else, then go live where you want to climb

i live in VB. the closest place out around here is in richmond. theres a place called Manchester Wall. ive personally never been...im actualyl just getting into climbing. other than that you have to drive up to Great Falls NP near DC or out west to the Shenandoah region for good climbing. this place will grow on you...

Lol I just saw this thread on the recent threads section on the front page and found it funny. Before moving to NoVA I lived in Hampton for 14 years and all I can suggest is make the trip up to the Mannchester rock in Richmond or the VA Beach rock Gym. Those are pretty much your only options. Another possability is building your own woodie/training area at your house.

Yeah, nothing in the area for climbing. I head up to Richmond pretty much every weekend and stay up there with my girlfriend. I hit up Manchester every other weekend or more if possible. I'm still a progressing beginner. I go up north to Great Falls every once in a while too, I might be going more often since my partner moved from Richmond to NOVA. Manchester is pretty nice if your learning or I guess just keeping the muscles loose. If you would like we could get in touch and head out sometime. I don't get back from Iraq until around the middle of October, so message me around then if you would like to go. Company for the drive is always appreciated. It's like and hour and 15 or 30 minute drive on 64 from the Hampton Center Parkway. Well, hope to hear from you, later!

Hey nabeek, I'm in Hampton as well and if you're gonna go anywhere within an hour and a half, go to Peak Experiances gym in Richmond, it's 47,000 times better than VBRG and the staff is super friendly. Manchester's.... alright.... at best.... once you do one route, you've done em all. Good area to sport lead outdoors if you don't have time to get out to Iron Gate, Franklin or NRG.
